How to Make Cheap Crown Molding

If you have the materials as well as the information, you can design and make them by adding your own creative touch and also have the liberty to make them look expensive.
- To install cheap crown moldings, first of all find the materials which you need. You can make these from wood, metal, plastic and styrofoam. Wood and plastic are however the cheapest materials you can go for, as they are easily available, bought in bulk, and give a real look like stone.
- You will also have to make sure that you have enough material to go around the room twice. The other things you will require are a miter saw to cut the molding, white paint and a nail gun. You can purchase these inexpensive crown moldings in any home improvement stores, which sell crown moldings of cheap material.
- Once, you are prepared, measure the entire circumference of the room and check if you have enough material. The crown molding should not be more than 2'' to 3'' wide, as wider ones may not suit the walls of your home. Thus to be safe, you can use these dimensions and have them in any designs you wish.
- Apply the crown molding all the way around the room, as close to the ceiling as possible. Do this with the help of a nail gun and cut the edges with a miter saw. If the room looks good with just one crown molding leave it to that, if not, go for the second.
- Measure, a distance of 4'' to 5'' down from the crown molding and mark this all the way around the room. Apply the crown molding again in the same manner.
- Paint this applied molding with white paint, so it looks like stone and then you can decorate it however you want.
