Chasing Pavements
A reverse love story. A story about choosing to give up or chase after love.
"I don't like you." He said.
My heart drops and tears well up in my eyes. It wasn't that I was expecting him to say he loved me. It's just... I didn't think he'd say those words so bluntly.
"I mean really, Elaine. Did you think that just because I let you hang around all these months that it meant something? You knew from the start that I wasn't into you. I mean look at you..." he says, gesturing at me.
My head cast down as I momentarily look at my dress. Sure, it wasn't as chic and glamorous as the girls who were always with him, but it wasn't that bad either.
"Is it 'coz I'm not as pretty as they are?" I ask in a small voice.
"Hun, I got my reputation to uphold here. How am I supposed to become a rockstar one day if I get stuck in this place and end up with a small town girl like you? It just wouldn't work out." He says, while lighting another cigarette.
I never liked guys who smoked before. For some weird reason, on him, it looked sexy. There I go again, stupid as usual.
"Elaine, why would you even think that I'm into you? What made you think that I have the slightest intention of making you my girl?"
"But you said I was special..." I manage to say. "You let me meet your friends. And... and we've gone out a couple of times." I argue.
He looks at me with a scowl on his face. "And you think because of those we're supposed to end up together? We went out two times, and with my friends at that! That doesn't mean we'll be together forever."
"But... I love you." I say, my knees weak, exhausted.
"Well, I guess one day you'll find someone who loves you back." He says. "Now, let's go back to the house okay? I'm getting cold out here."
He walks back to the house, leaving me to look at nothingness, my heart in splinters.
I can't believe he's such a moron... I say to myself.

One day. One day you'll love me, more than I love you.
