Chapter 1 - The Encounter
Forever hiding in places humans would never go. Waiting, lurking, little romance and maybe a little blood anything wrong? A lot!
"Son everything is going to be okay", said my foster-father who was looking at the floor as he said this. The pain of wanting to kill him with my bare hands was so frustrating to think about. I couldn't move at all thanks to the knife that was piercing my chest and even though I wanted to yell, it felt as if it was stuck coming up out of my throat. My vision was getting foggy as the sounds of the machines and slight murmurs grew dimmer. I looked at my foster-father and cursed him for putting me here. I was in a dark room on a metal bed with doctors who cared nothing of trying to save me, but of killing me. My only light source was a freaking light bulb swinging from the ceiling. "I'm not a monster!" I yelled out with my thoughts hoping it would reach them. I could feel my blood streaming down my arms and onto to the floor. Each drop hoping to be my last in this place. "We must hurry this thing won't last another hour" one of the doctors said as he took hold of the knife and ripped it out of my chest. The thing they referred to was me, and it took me hours to realize this. Sudden pain traveled all around my body and blood sprayed up onto my face and I suddenly feared death.
"Someone save me" I thought as they held me down and plunged a new knife into the gaping hole. Blood filled my mouth and it tasted like metal even though the taste was becoming way too common. Someone took the other knife and ran to the other side and came back twenty minutes later with a piece of paper. Time went so quick when you didn't pay attention as pain was your constant reality to stay alive. "So what percent is he?" someone close to me said. It took a while to hear the reply and when he said it the room got quiet. "His ninety-seven percent pure" he said with a shaky voice. A lot of footsteps walked towards him to check the paper in his shaky hands, and minutes later a gasp surrounded the room. "His a third generation infected" they all said. Suddenly, my eyes grew heavy and numbness traveled around my body. I was close to death, but before I could hold on to the idea a gunshots started going off, only to be silenced one by one. "What's going on out there?" someone said.
The double twin doors flew open and in a split second later yells of pain traveled throughout the room and at the same time silence came after. Even with my eyes closed I felt someone presence looming over me. Whoever it was placed their hands on the knife and before they pulled it out it told me, "This is going to hurt." Pain again flew over me and I had a splitting headache that matched it. It took a lot of minutes before I was able to open my eyes. I looked around to see the bodies of the humans that tried to kill me. As grotesque as it was I found it just. I heard a silent whimper and turned to find out it was my foster-father covered in blood and both hands cut off from his wrist. "He didn't seem like a doctor so I didn't kill him" said a feminine voice and I quickly turned to face her. It was an infected and though I never seen others like my parents I could tell she was second generation. She had white hair and red eyes which wasn't all too different from me. "It's okay. Let the bastard die" I rashly said as I jumped from the metal bed. I tried to transform into my infected form, but I was still too weak from losing all that blood.
Blood was still dripping from my chest and it looked sickening to look at. She kept an eye on me as if interested in me in some way. "Why did you save me?" i said finding it hard to believe I was saved. She walked towards me and stared all over me. "You didn't want to be saved?" she questioned as if she could couldn't believe it. I had no time to argue with her really so I thanked her anyway. I found water and drank till I couldn't drink no more and felt alright. I tried to transform, but she stopped me. "Wait till we get outside" and she helped me steady myself to the door. I hated my human form, because it was too weak compared to my infected form. As we walked towards the door I kept looking at her and wondered if she was cute in her human form. With infected you could never tell, because they looked scary and fiendish.
Though the bodies of the doctors and nurses were everywhere she was the only thing alive to look at. She stared back at my chest and had a surprised look on her face when she realized my chest was almost healed. It never occurred to me of how quick I healed, but not all infected people can heal that fast from what I could tell. When we reached outside I realized it was close to sundown and worst of all we were in a forest. She didn't stop as we made it for the trees and before I had time to question this I heard a metallic click. I pushed her away (which was hard to do when your human and weak as I am) towards cover. The bullet whizzed by and I smiled as I turned around. "Humans should know when to not fire" I said as I transformed to my infected form. Unlike all infected you hear about with pale skin, I have this rock colored skin which I think sets me apart from all others.
The guy took aim and the minute he fired I dodged it quickly and ran at him. He fired again and this time the bullet slide across my left cheek and already was healing. I was so surprised to find him reloading at the distance I was closing in on him. Before he could lift his gun I pushed it away and stared at him with my red eyes. "Y-you monster!" he screamed out. I laughed out loud and took his gun and threw it away. "Run bunny and never come back" I said and turned my back. If I were right I knew he would try something and sure enough he did. He whipped out another gun, but this one was old-fashioned and aimed it at me. I turned around so fast he didn't have time to blink as I held his gun hand with my left hand and sliced his throat with my right hand. Blood sprayed around and I loved the warmth of it. He dropped the gun and went limp, but I wasn't done as I threw his body into the tree. "Stupid human you should have just listened." The girl who had saved me was on the ground in her human form and I was so happy to find out how pretty she was.
Her human hair was dirty blonde and her eyes where greenish blue. Yep, she was a hybrid second generation which meant she couldn't stay in her infected form long, and pieces of her infected form are visible in her human form. Her hair contained pieces of silver, but it didn't bother me much. She tried getting up, but even I could see that was impossible. Unlike me she could heal fast in her human form, but faster than normal humans. "What's your name?" I told her as I swung her arm around my neck. She took her time gathering enough energy to answer and silently said, "Amy". I was feeling pretty heated knowing she answered back. "My name is Jeremy" I told her and she smiled. She raises her arm and pointed in a slanted direction of where we needed to go and I followed it. I knew I couldn't carry her forever, because I still wasn't fully healed and I was too hungry.
