Chapter 5 - Birth of an Angel and Death of a Loved One

Previous chapters: The Arrival, Audience with the Queen, The Truth Revealed, The Spirit's Fate. The chapter is exactly how the title says. For the people who voted on the polls in my all previous chapters, thank you. I really wanted to see if anyone liked my story or not. And again can you do the poll on this chapter too.
Birth of the Angel
And Death of a Loved One

"So the war started. And it raged on and on. Fire erupted. And families were often in danger.
Vyu and Miirii* tried everything in their power to protect their people. Both were magicians. Vyu cast a spell to cover their town and he made it so that the veil was only blocking what was evil. Miirii* got into it in a way nobody expected. She lead their army of spirits and creatures into the battle field, blasting bursts of magic left to right. Her healing powers also proved helpful.
Now everyone depended on Vyu and Miirii*. Wives and children could only pray to them to bring their husbands home safely. They prayed to them for food. They prayed to them for shelter. They prayed to them for safety. They prayed to them for success. They prayed to them for them to continue living.
Vyu and Miirii* tried everything they could but even with a bigger army they could only hold Nesemis at the brink for now. Sometimes they might win a lucky battle here and there but it was just a small feat. Many got hurt and Miirii*’s healing powers got pushed into an overdrive.
Everyday, the men and Miirii* would return and be greeted by hopeful, wondering eyes. Each time, no one would say anything. The hopeful eyes would die out as they understood the days events.
One day, they didn’t return at their usual time. All was anxious as the time drifted on. Many came to Vyu for answers but he had none. He just hoped, like everyone else, that they would return.
As the sun slowly sank down below the horizon, the men finally came back. Everyone let out a sign of relief. Even Vyu.
The men trudged back into the village even more scratched up and hurt than ever before. Wives and children rushed to them rejoicing that everyone, and especially their own fathers and husbands, were safe.
Vyu stood at the side staring at the sight, thinking that he has never been so fretful to see Miirii* before. But it wasn’t until a few moments later that he realized that he couldn’t see Miirii*. His eyes scanned the mob of people twice more until he was convinced. Miirii* wasn’t there.
He ran up to some family reunions and screamed into their faces. "Where’s Miirii*?!?!?!" No one would answer him. It wasn’t until he pushed his way into the center that he finally saw Miirii*.
She was a lump on the ground. A non-moving lump on the ground.
"OH MY GOD! MIIRII*!!!." Tears spilled out of his eyes. Everyone had stopped conversing. Some looked away.
A gentle paw squeezed his shoulder. He looked over his shoulder, through his tear stained eyes. It was Peter.
"How could you?! How could you let her die? It’s all your fault! It’s all your fault that she died!!" He glared at the people around him and continued squeezing Miirii* toward him. How much did he wish to see her calm peaceful smile again. And how did he wish to hear her filling laughter again. Just once more.
"Relax Vyu." Peter said. "She’s not dead. She just fainted on the battle field. Though, she is really hurt. It would be best if we could get her inside right away."
Vyu turned back to Peter again, his eyes blazing with anger. "You’re lying. There’s no way she could of survived. Once Nesemis had seen her fall he would of attacked her right away."
"Once we noticed she fainted she was pulled out of the battle right away. But without Miirii* the battle was against us. We were lucky to have everyone escape alive."
"But you didn’t!" Vyu argued. "Not everyone came out alive." He said solemnly, looking back at Miirii*’s pale face.
"I’m tired of arguing with you, Vyu. If you don’t believe me, go see for yourself."
Vyu reluctantly put his ear next to her heart. Sure enough, there was a beat. He let out a ragged breath of joy.
"She’s alive." He whispered, feeling the tears creeping back. "She’s alive."
"Let’s get her inside." A voice behind him gently suggested. They carefully lifted Miirii* up onto Ms. Horse’s back. Peter walked silently next to Vyu as they journeyed back to their hut.
Vyu’s mind traveled back into the past, through all the time they had spent together. When they first appeared here, in this strange place. When they suffered through the hardships to survive the harsh environment. They’ve always been together. Now he couldn’t imagine what it would be like if……if Miirii* couldn’t……… if she couldn’t make it.
"Vyu." He glanced up. They have arrived. Now, it was all up to him.
"Thanks Peter."
"Oh, it’s nothing!"Peter said offering a grin. He started to walk away but then turned back. "She’s strong, Vyu. She can make it through anything." Then he continued forward, praying for Miirii*’s safety. The problem was that he didn’t know who to pray to. Now that Miirii* is on the verge of death, he wasn’t sure if he could pray to Vyu anymore.
All night, the villagers could hear Vyu’s grunts and groans. Even then, Vyu wouldn’t quit. Some even went up to the hut and knocked on the door, concerned. Vyu ignored everything. Peter couldn’t even get him out.
Finally, after eight straight hours, Vyu’s exhausted face appeared in the doorway. Everyone was there, fretfully waiting to hear what Vyu had to say.
He shook his head and his voice cracked when he spoke. "I-I-I don’t think she’s going- to make it."
Peter rushed to Vyu and steadied him. "Of course she’s going to make it."
A blood-curling scream escaped the hut.
"Miirii*!" Vyu flew into the hut and the crowd followed, completely filling the hut.
Over the body of Miirii* was a blue ball the color of a calm sea.
Without a word, Peter and Vyu nervously crept toward it.
"What do you think it is Vyu?"
He cautiously peered inside and instantly stumbled back.
The women rushed up to help him.
"Vyu? Vyu. Vyu!."
Vyu’s hand grabbed Peter’s furry arm. "Peter! It’s-it’s-it’s a girl!"
"What? No way!" Peter inspected the glowing ball’s contents.
Indeed, it was a girl. A small helpless figure with long flowing hair within a spherical body.
"So? What do we do with it Vyu?"
He sat up gently, still shaking. "I don’t know Peter, but I think that we should leave it be."
They slowly lead the way out of Miirii*’s resting room and everyone silently trailed behind them.
For the rest of that day, at least one women stood guard, tended, and watched over Miirii* and the mysterious baby.
All the men, including Vyu, spent the day discussing battle plans. Now that Miirii* is unable to fight, Vyu has to take over.
Just when the last of the sun’s rays were disappearing did Vyu finally return home.
He sat quietly besides Miirii and stroked her hair. He sat like this untill the town clock announced that it was midnight.
The blue ball suddenly grew and grew and grew while it became brighter and brighter and brighter.
Vyu shaded his eyes but kept them on the growing ball, afraid of Miirii*’s safety.
A scream of pain escaped from Miirii*’s lips and woke everyone person in the town.
A bright flash.
The next thing he knew, the baby’s cries split the air and a child was born.
As for Miirii*, Vyu rushed to her but her body was limp. Her hands were cold. Icy cold. Her eyes were a shade of dark blue. Almost gray.
"NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
Because of the fact that Miirii* died when giving birth, in his fury, Vyu put a curse on everyone that all women must suffer pain when granting life. So whenever a baby is being born, they can feel Vyu’s curse.
So, on that night, June 25th, an angel was born, and a loved was dead."
