The Truth Revealed

"A long time ago when humanity hadn’t existed, there were……spirits. They were at peace with each other, for a time any ways. There were always two bright, red stars in their sky. Always made peace between any quarrels, those stars. Well, then, one day, those two stars formed the shape of a dragon. A gleaming red dragon. And that was the day when everything changed.

"In the midst of their daily doings, at the stroke of midnight, things appeared. Two of each."

"Two of each what?" I blurted before I could remember not to interrupt.

"Everything. Two of everything that we have. Humans, animals, even my kind. One of those humans were called Vyu. And things really started to get serious that day …………….

"Those spirits are getting restless. Miirii*, we must do something about it."

A beautiful woman swept into the room filling the air with her laughter. "Oh,Vyu, you always say that those ghosts are going to rise up against us."

The man called Vyu got red faced. "I do not! But we best stay alert."

Knock-knock. "Miirii*, would you go see who that is."

"Hm. I wonder if the only reason why you even keep me around is to do the jobs you’re too lazy to do."

She glided to the door only to see a badger waiting on the threshold.

"Hello Peter."

Peter tipped his hat in greeting. "Top of the morning to you."

"Yes, Vyu is inside. Darling, Peter’s here." She called to the house. "Come on in Peter."

Vyu was waiting for him inside.

"So, what brings you to this neck of the woods?" Vyu said, with a wide grin on his face.

"Actually, it’s nothing to laugh about. I brought news. And you know that you would be the first to hear about any kind of trouble. Miirii*, you might want to sit down and hear about this too."

"Now one of the spirits called Nesemis is stirring up some trouble. He’s been going through homes and stealing things. And he’s denying everything. Says he has nothin’ to do with it."

Miirii* gasped. "Oh my! Is there any evidence?"

"Ahhhh, ol’ Nesemis has already been caught. Ratted out by his own people! Now that’s something that unthinkable, isn’t it."

"You know, I have always thought that those spirits have been the peaceful type. And now looked at what happened!"

"Now you got that wrong. They are peaceful. None of em’ ‘cept Nesemis here have done one evil thing in their lives. Just cause one of them is bad doesn’t mean that the whole group has to be blamed."

"But people sure think that way." Vyu cut in. "I’ve heard all kinds of stories of how those spirits doing all kinds of things!"

"One spoiled apple ruins the whole batch." Miirii* said, nodding solelemly.

"Wise words. Wise words. The are going to be remembered someday." Vyu nodded in agreement.

"Anyhow, the other spirits are mighty scared. Nesemis can do some evil things and they are scared of what Nesemis are going to do to them."

"What does that have to do anything to us? I thought the whole village agreed to stay out of their problems." Vyu questioned, not liking where this is going.

"Mighty right we did, but the others are asking us for help."

"What do they want us to do?" Miirii* whispered, afraid of the answer.

"They want us to help protect them."

"What are we supposed to do? They are already stronger than us. And why do we want to help the enemy? It’s madness!"

"I agree with Vyu, Peter. There’s nothing we can do."

Peter sat back in his chair staring at the couple. "Now who said they were the enemy. Like I said, they are peaceful creatures, they are. And it doesn’t matter if they’re stronger than us. Who says that we can’t help them since we’re different. Who says that we’re weaker than them. Mighty well, we have brains don’t we? Bigger and better ones too. Even power has to bow down to wisdom sometimes."

"Now Peter, I’m not saying that I don’t want to help, but I am saying that it wouldn’t be a wise choice too."

"Is that so, Miirii*?" said Peter raising an eyebrow.

"Yes, Peter. Like you said, Nesemis is a powerful and evil spirit. If we help these peaceful spirits, aren’t we just inviting trouble to our homes?"

"That may be, Miirii*, but if we don’t help them, they might die."

"Peter, some things are worth fighting for but to risk our lives to help them, where they have never done anything for us, is just suicide!"

"Now listen here Miirii*-"

"Alright, that’s enough!" Vyu interjected. "There are pros and cons to this situation and we have to think them though. And I don’t think it is only up to us. We should call a meeting and see how it goes. If we say yes, we help them. If we say no, we mind our own business."

"I think we should hold the meeting instantly. The sooner the better."

"I actually agree with Miirii* on this one."

"Vyu, honey, I think that the spirits should also be present."

"Peter, what do you say?" Vyu asked, turning to him.

He hesitated before answering. " I think…..I think that the spirits should also get a say in this. After all, it is their problem and they should have a chance to convince us."

"Alright! It’s settled then. We’ll hold the meeting today at four in the town church building. Peter, could you tell the spirits about the meeting. Make sure Nesemis doesn’t hear about this."

"Sure can Vyu. " agreed Peter, already getting up and heading for the door.

"And Miirii*, could you spread the word around."

"Certainly." Miirii* said, rushing out of the room in her beautiful and graceful way.

Vyu leaned back, stressed. People had always dubbed him as wise, but this time, he doesn’t have a clue."
