Cerebral Hemorrhage Causes

Even though modern science boasts of taking some giant leaps in the field of medicine, it surely can't boast of solving all the mysteries about our body. Several attributes of the human anatomy system are yet to be understood, and the human brain is just one of them. The fact that our brain is encased in the skull, which is the strongest part of our body, doesn't make it absolutely safe from injury. One such medical condition is cerebral hemorrhage i.e. bleeding from some ruptured blood vessel within the brain.

Cerebral Hemorrhage

Cerebral hemorrhage, also referred to as brain hemorrhage or intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH), is a subtype of intracranial hemorrhage, i.e. hemorrhage or bleeding within the skull, which occurs within the brain tissue instead of outside it. Simply put, cerebral hemorrhage is a medical condition wherein a rupture to the blood vessel results in bleeding and damage to the brain. Generally, cerebral hemorrhage symptoms include sudden headaches, nausea, vomiting etc. Other than these symptoms, the person will also experience difficulty in carrying out functions which are associated with the corresponding part of the brain.

Yet another medical condition, subarachnoid hemorrhage, i.e. bleeding into the subarachnoid space, tends to produce similar signs and symptoms. Owing to the similarity in signs and symptoms, sometimes cerebral hemorrhage is misdiagnosed as subarachnoid hemorrhage. Cerebral hemorrhage treatment depends on the factors responsible for the hemorrhage. These methods of treatment can be categorized into surgical and non-surgical methods. The effectiveness of these procedures may differ from person to person. After subjecting the patient to cerebral hemorrhage diagnosis, the medical practitioner will be in a better position to tell which of these procedures would be effective.

Cerebral Hemorrhage Causes

As we mentioned earlier, cerebral hemorrhage is a condition triggered by the rupture of some blood vessel in the brain. This rupture can be attributed to a number of factors, including brain injury and hemorrhagic stroke. In fact, both of these are considered to be the most important causes of cerebral hemorrhage. Any head injury caused by a severe blow to the head or skull fracture can also trigger bleeding within the brain. There also exist some medical conditions which can make a person more susceptible to intracerebral hemorrhage. High blood pressure, for instance, increases your chances of suffering from this condition by 2-6 times.

Other conditions which can cause cerebral hemorrhage include brain aneurysm, congenital abnormalities, arteriovenous malformation etc. Even though the instances are rare, yet another medical condition which can trigger bleeding in the brain is a rare form of stroke referred to as cerebral venous sinus thrombosis.

Intracerebral hemorrhage is a serious condition which has to be treated at the earliest, failing which the condition can worsen and result in coma and/or death. The causes of cerebral hemorrhage play a significant role in determining the ideal method of treatment. Even though recovery is possible, the duration will be influenced by the size of the hemorrhage as well as the amount of swelling.
