Changing the decor of a house can dramatically affect the look of the house. An elegant and graceful look can be obtained by changing the paint or ceiling or even floor tiles! Yes these are also one of the major aspects of home improvement! For now though, let's focus on tiles. Simply changing the tiles can turn your house into a subject of envy for those who visit your place. Amongst the tiles, ceramic tiles are inexpensive and fairly easy to install. Moreover, these are available in various designs and patterns, which makes it more interesting to have these tiles installed in your house. Here is something you might find useful.

Installing Ceramic Tiles

Before installing the tiles, you will have to zero in on ceramic tile patterns and demarcate the exact area where you want to lay the tiles. What you need for ceramic tile flooring -
  • Ceramic tiles
  • Ceramic tile adhesive
  • Tile spacers
  • Grout
  • Trowel - notched or toothed trowel
  • Rags
  • Construction adhesive
  • Screws for backing
  • Power screwdriver
  • Floor level compound (for a floor)
  • Tile saw or tile cutter
  • Level
After this we go to the process of installation of these tiles.

Point 1- The Groundwork
For preparation of the floor for laying ceramic tiles, install ceramic tile blackboards on plywood. Another thing that can be done is a cement foundation can be patched for creating a level surface. Visualize the pattern in your mind or if you can draw it, even better. Even when you are considering ceramic tile backsplash installation, this is crucial.

Point 2- Initial Work
Once you have decided on the pattern, start off at the entrance of the main door and then keep laying tiles that way. For ceramic tile installation to be correct and uniform, you will have to get hold of a marker or chalk.

Point 3- Laying the Tile
To guide you for laying the tiles, draw a line with chalk, which will be perpendicular to the entrance. This will be the guideline for the first ceramic tile row. The line needs to be 90 degrees, which can be done well using a square. It will extend from the main door line, from the main door to the opposite walls.

Point 4- Laying the Tiles - Once More
To continue the ceramic tile installation, take the chalk line as guiding line. For equal spacing between each tile, using spacers will be very crucial. Spacers will help keep the grout joints consistent.

Point 5- Almost to the End
In spots where you cannot install a complete tile, what you can do is install a temporary board at the spot where a row comes to the end. Tiles will have to be laid along the board, perpendicular to the first row which has been fixed.

Point 6- Measuring the Gaps
At the end of the row, measure the gaps and approximately figure out the level of shuffling and moving that will have to be done. Decide how far to the center do you need to move for getting an equal border.

Last and the final thing is, to draw another chalk line from where you will start laying the tile. Once you are done with installation, grouting is another essential procedure which has to be done. There you are! In case you are skeptical about doing this on your own, you can get it done from a professional.

Cost of Ceramic Tile Installation

The design and number of tiles you need will determine the cost of installing ceramic tiles. For instance, if you opt for glazed ceramic tile, these cost in the range of $3 to $20 going up to $30. In that case, the cost of just the material for, let's say a 10X10 foot room will be around $300 to $3,000 or more. That will again, depend on how big the area is. Add the installation charges to that, which run up to around $10 for a square foot. In case there are any specifications and the like, the charges may increase. Then if the layout of the room is unusual, the overall costs can elevate.

That was all I had! There are a couple of things before this article gets over. To begin with, make sure that those who do the work adhere to the set standards. If you do it yourself, you will be better off with some help around! All the best! Till next time, it is ciao from me!
