Cell Phone Batteries: How to Increase Cell Phone Battery Life

The cell phone has become an indispensable part of everybody's life. Although a lot of advancement is seen in cell phones in the past few years, the cell phone battery life is still a big problem. Let's get to know how to increase cell phone battery life.
cell phones have progressed exceptionally in the last few years. However, the battery life has remained an important issue over a number of years. Ten years ago, cell phones were used only in an emergency. The battery life of the cell phones was a problem in those days and it remains so, even now. The lithium ion batteries that are used as cell phone batteries these days, were introduced later. The lithium ion batteries are small and light and are used in laptop computers and iPods as well. Here are some of the ways to increase the cell phone battery life.

The cell phone batteries should not be charged for a long time. That is, a cell phone battery should not be charged after the battery has reached the fully charged status. There is a thumb rule about the cell phone battery life, which states that higher the temperature, lesser is the battery life. Many people have a habit of charging the batteries overnight. They do not unplug the cell phones when the cell phone is fully charged. When the cell phone battery remains plugged, the battery continues to get charged. An immediate effect with the battery getting discharged, is not observed promptly, when you overcharge the battery. Instead, the long term effect of a decrease in the cell phone battery life is seen. This happens as a result of the increased heat, which is caused due to the overcharging of the cell phone battery. A solution to this problem is to switch-off your cell phone when you are charging it. This solution may not seem feasible to many of us, but it really helps. This will cut down the heating problem, even if the battery remains plugged after it has been fully charged.

The lithium ion batteries have 300-500 charge-discharge cycles. For prolonged battery life, the lithium batteries must not be fully discharged. However, once in 25-30 charges, the battery must be fully discharged and then charged. This will calibrate the battery gauge properly. If the battery gauge is not calibrated properly, the cell phone will occasionally switch-off, even when the battery has not discharged completely.

Keeping the cell phones on the vibration mode, causes the cell phone battery to drain quickly. The cell phone batteries get discharged quickly if kept on vibration, as compared to the lowering in the charge, when kept on the silent mode. The back-light of the cell phone must be set to turn off after a few seconds. The cell phone battery drains quickly if the screen of the mobile remains on for a long time. The settings of your mobile has an option of turning off the back-light after few seconds. Use this setting to avoid quick discharge of the cell phone battery. Even the screensavers require a lot of energy and this discharges the cell phone battery.

The added features in a cell phone, like the bluetooth, Wi-Fi and GPRS drain the battery very rapidly. These features must be turned off, when not in use. The keypad must be locked when the cell phone is kept in pockets. The extra and unnecessary button hits, causes the battery to discharge quickly. The cell phone must not be kept in extremely hot or extremely cold temperatures. These extreme temperatures may cause the cell phone battery life to decrease. The batteries must not be exposed to water, as that can reduce the life of the battery to a very large extent. Not only the battery, but other features of the cell phone may also stop working if the cell phone is exposed to water. It is advisable not to buy spare batteries along with your new cell phone. If at all, you do buy one, keep it in the refrigerator, but avoid keeping it in the freezer. When you refrigerate the spare battery, the battery must be charged to 40% of the total charging.

Lastly, when you buy a new cell phone, the first charging must be done for 10 hours. These are some of the simple tips to increase cell phone battery life. Enjoy talking for longer hours!
