For example, a combination of platinum and rhodium, is used for reducing the volume of toxic matter, while platinum and palladium, are used for oxidation. The number, amount and nature of these substances, that are used in the converter, basically depends upon the size of the engine (also known as CC), fuel that is used by the engine and horse power that is delivered by the engine. Some automobile manufacturers also produce their own auto parts. If not, you can find the names of companies that supply converters to your car manufacturer in the manual. It is advisable to install the converter that has been prescribed by the manufacturer. The cost of a three-way converter and the ones for lean engines is very high, starting from a bracket of USD 500. The oxygen storage converters are a bit expensive but are durable and also serve the purpose very well. Such a converter will come in at around USD 200 give or take a few bucks.
