Eyes are the most prominent feature of every animal, especially the cats which have beautiful and striking eyes. If you observe them closely, you will notice that cats have watery eyes, in general, watery eyes that look as if the cat is crying! Normal watery eyes is not that serious issue at all as it is a lubricating fluid in the cat's eyes that keeps their eyes safe from the dirt and scratches. Eye Infection

Feline Upper Respiratory Infection
Feline upper respiratory infection is a disease that can cause watery eyes. This infection is caused due to a sudden onslaught of viral infection in the respiratory tract. It is a highly contagious infection that can easily get spread from one cat to the other through air. Along with watery eyes, this disease also show some other symptoms like cough, nasal discharge, ulcers (oral and nasal), hoarse voice and fever.

Chlamydia
Chlamydia is a lung disease in cats that is also a sort of URI (Upper Respiratory Infection) in cats. It is also called feline pneumonitis and is mostly seen in kittens. It is a bacterial infection that can also trigger as a response to several other viruses. Along with runny eyes, its other symptoms include, flu, cold, cough, chlamydia may also lead to the pink eye syndrome in cats. A culture test with swab can help determining whether watery eyes is caused due to chlamydia.

Herpes and Calicivirus
These are the two contaminants that are main causes behind more than 90% cases of upper respiratory infections. Due to the above mentioned viruses, cats also suffer with mild fever, and there are chances that there can be reappearance of the disease after a few years of its evacuation. Hence, there is always a need to seek for a long term treatment for cat with water eyes. Generally, there is a three years vaccination dose, that is preferred by the vets.

Treatment for Watery Eyes in Cats
It is a known fact that the treatment for watery eyes in cats is possible only after an appropriate diagnosis of the cause. One seeing such signs and symptoms in a cat with watery eyes for more than one or two days, with some abnormal cat behavior, then it is a high time you should go and visit the veterinary doctor. Early attention and evaluation of the cause can really give quick and proper relief.

Most probable treatments depend as per the type of sickness that the cat is suffering with. The vet can prescribe several eye gels, ointments, antibiotics and several such drugs for treating watery eyes in cats. There are chances that the doctor might also change the eating pattern of the cat and would want to provide some extra cat nutrition or different cat food as well. As a caring guardian, it is your prime job to follow all the instructions of the veterinary doctor and take the maximum care of your feline.
