Cat Meowing Constantly

A sophisticated form of communication by the feline pets is a simple 'meow'. Yet you will find many variations and vocalizations of this simple 'meow' that may make you go crazy. Cats have personalities like people do and want their needs attended like a royal blood. You will find that different cat breeds have different kinds of 'meows'. Some cats like to shrill and some yodel a lot. As a cat owner myself, I had been and continue to face cat meowing constantly sometimes.

Why is My Cat Meowing Constantly?

After listening to my cat meowing, I took up the mission of finding the reasons why he does that. Cats are smart creatures and know their vocalizations will help them get what they want. They may meow day and night just because they may be getting bored. Or your cat may meow constantly because it likes to hear its own voice. Cats use their meow to communicate with us and with other cats. They have learned that humans respond to their meows better, than reading cat body language. They will meow to make us open the door to their freedom outdoors or they want to tell us, 'I'm hungry, feed me', or 'Hey, Miss, it is time for a tickle'. But even after feeding your cat or giving it a tickle, you may find the cat meowing. What can be the reason behind the meowing? Maybe, the following reasons have an answer to that will address your problem.

Reason #1
You have just come home after a long day at work. And you find the cat meowing and running around you. This means that the cat is just glad to see you home and wants you to pick it up and stroke it lovingly.

Reason #2
The constant meowing maybe because it wants to be let out. The cat must have learned that it was let out the last time when it became vocal. Cats are smart and pick up on their owners weaknesses. The cat knows that a point will be reached where you have reached the end of your sanity. The only way to get your sanity back is by letting it out. Thus, it will continue to meow till you do not pay heed to its demand.

Reason #3
It is seen a female cats in heat will meow constantly to let their males know about their condition. A female cat can continue to meow all day and night, just cause she is in need of a male partner. Male cats in heat or those who can smell a female in heat, will meow constantly as they want to be let out to their beauty in heat. Thus, it is better to get them neutered or sprayed to decrease the meowing.

Reason #4
Many cat owners face the problem of constant meowing at night. There can be many reasons about why a cat meows constantly at night. If you bring home a new cat, it may not have become used to the new environment and wants to get some attention and reassurance. Cats are intelligent and they understand that constant meowing will get them your attention, rather than they walking over to the human. Meowing at night may also be due to the cat feeling anxious and wants some comfort from the owner.

Reason # 5
Meowing constantly is the only way a cat can let the owner know it is not well. The cat maybe feeling sick or may be injured that needs attention from the owner. You should watch out for cat illnesses signs and take the cat to a vet to make sure all is well with you kitty.

Reason #6
Cats are highly emotional creatures and can experience feelings of fear, grief, compassion, content or even jealously. Some cats may grief a loss of owner or miss someone in the family it is close to and meow constantly. Some cats may feel compassion for other cats and bring them over to the house for a little munch. Or a cat may be jealous of other cats or kids in the house and hate to share their owner, food bowl or even toys. You need to understand what emotions your cat is going through. This will help you find the reason of cat meowing constantly.

How to Stop My Cat From Meowing Constantly?
The only solution to all the above reasons is becoming an attentive owner and learning to understand which 'meows' are to be ignored. When you find your cat meowing, just ignore it for sometime. It will continue to throw tantrums and then become silent on its own. When you find your cat is quiet, give it a good kitty treat that will prove to be a reward for good behavior. You should bring home cat toys and find ways to keep your cat busy. A busy cat will meow less and thus help solve your problem. Also, make sure you shower your cat with attention. Cats who do not receive attention may meow constantly to get your attention. If you leave your cat alone at home during the day, spend some quality play time with your cat after you return from work. A bored cat that has nothing to do, will meow constantly.

Cats are habit forming creatures. When the cat meows constantly at night for no apparent reason, avoid rushing over to see what it needs. The cats are active during the night and can get bored or needs attention during the night. If you find the cat meowing at night, ignore it. Soon, within a few days, it will learn it does not affect you and won't get vocal. You need to stop giving it food whenever it begins to meow constantly. The cat food should be given only when the cat is quiet. You should give the cat a lot of attention only after it becomes quiet and ignore the noisy cat. Never shout, yell or get angry when you hear the constant meowing. This will only make the cat meow constantly, as it is getting what it wants - your attention.

Once the cat gets used to getting its way, it will keep meowing to have its way all the time. I began to ignore my cat whenever he began to meow constantly. He would quieten up after sometime and then I would shower him with cuddles and kisses. This seems to have helped me with my problem of cat meowing constantly.
