Cassalena and Scar Epilogue
Six years later.
Epilogue
Scar jogged from the stables towards the house. It was late and he'd just returned from a weeklong guild job. He shoved open the double doors and looked around. Rowan had left the lights burning for him. He removed his cloak and tossed it over one arm. He ran up the staircase and looked around. The new house was bigger and more suited to the life they were leading now but it took him a little longer to figure out where Cassalena was.
Rowan walked around the corner and bowed his head. His hair had turned gray in the last few years giving him a more distinguished look, it suited him. "Welcome home my lord."
"Thank you Rowan. Where-"
"The master bedroom. Would you like me to bring you something to eat?" Scar shook his head.
"No thank you Rowan, you can get some sleep." Rowan smiled.
"I always wake, it's an old habit." Rowan walked with the same grace and balance as always, time did not seem to affect anything but his hair.
Scar walked through the stone hallway to the Master bedroom. He slowly opened and walked in. The fire was lit and burning brightly filling the room with a soft orange glow. Scar draped his cloak over an armchair by the fire. Alistair raised his head. He was stretched out before the fire on a rug. He looked at Scar with pleading eyes. "Fine" Scar whispered "You can stay." Alistair dropped his head back onto his paws.
Scar undid his necktie as he walked towards the large four poster bed. Cassalena was asleep in the bed with a book falling from her hand. Scar smiled and carefully put the book aside. He sat on the side on the bed next to her. He starred down at her and smiled. Her hair was falling out of the knot she'd put it in. Her lips were a deep red and her skin seemed to glow from the inside. He moved a hand down her body to her pregnant stomach. "Only a few months more" he whispered and kissed her stomach.
She shifted slightly but did not wake. A soft cry came from the other side of the bed. Scar got up and walked around the bed. "Why hello my little princess, what are you doing awake so late." He reached into the crib and lifted out the baby and held her up. She squirmed kicking at the white blanket she was wrapped in. She stopped looked at Scar for a moment. She has her mother's eyes. He thought. She was about to cry again when he brought her closer to his chest. She made small sounds as he moved her.
Scar stood by the window holding his baby girl and silently thanked whatever god was out there. The night felt damn near perfect. He heard Cassalena shift on the bed and turned to look at her. She blinked her eyes and gave him a lazy smile. He went and sat on the bed next to her. "Hey" he whispered and placed their daughter between them. "How are you feeling today?" he asked.
"Tired" Cassalena whispered back. Scar brushed a loose strand of hair away from her face.
Cassalena moved a hand to her stomach "I can't wait to have this one out, he's taking up all my energy, I swear he's practicing his kicking." Scar smiled and kissed her.
"Only two more after this one, then we'll negotiate." She raised an eyebrow and gave him the universal' that's-what-you-think' look "How do you know it'll be a boy?"he asked smiling.
"I just know, call it female intuition" The baby gurgled and Cassalena's attention quickly dropped to her.
Scar placed a hand on Cassalena's stomach and said "Well I think it'll be another girl."
"You thought Evie would be a boy."
"True, and I was happy to be proven wrong, and if I'm wrong again I'll be just as happy."
"Good because it's a boy and I know it." Cassalena said and glared at him for extra measure. Scar put his hands up in defeat. "Fine we're having a boy." Cassalena smiled triumphant.
They both watched Evie for a minute as she played with her now free hands. "Oh we're visiting the Duchess tomorrow, she's having a tournament to celebrate the start of spring, apparently Hope believes fairies will come." Scar smiled. Hope, the Duchess daughter, was very fond of faeries.
Evie had fallen asleep again while they talked. Scar carefully put her back in her crib and removed all his clothes. By the time he had pulled on a pair of cotton pants Cassalena was falling asleep. He climbed into the bed and Cassalena reached for him.
He moved closer to her and she curled up against him, her head rested on his shoulder and her hand rested on his chest. He wrapped and arm around her shoulders and felt the steady rise and fall of her breathing as she drifted off to sleep. He kissed the top of her head and closed his eyes....
