Casey Anthony Bankruptcy Trustee Wants to Sell Her Story

Casey Anthony has almost nothing, but the trustee in her bankruptcy proceeding is trying to extract value from her life story.
The trustee who is overseeing the bankruptcy proceedings of Casey Anthony has filed a motion in a Florida court to sell the rights to the young woman’s story in order to pay off her debts. The motion was filed last Friday in court in Tampa, with trustee Stephen Meininger asking the judge for permission to auction the "exclusive worldwide rights" of the woman’s life story. Anthony, of course, was acquitted in the murder case of her daughter, Caylee, who was 2 years old at the time of her death.

Anthony has never told her story, and in a recent meeting with creditors on March 4, she noted that she was unemployed and has never received money for her story. She is currently living with some friends who pay for her expenses and occasionally receives gift cards and money from strangers who appear to be in her thrall.

Meininger, as trustee, has a fiduciary duty to efficiently deal with debts in the bankruptcy proceeding and it’s clear that Anthony’s primary asset is her story, which has already drawn an offer of $10,000 from a man who wants to buy the story so that the 26-year-old Anthony cannot profit from it or publish it herself in the future. "Due to the intense public interest in Debtor and the Property, the Trustee believes that there will be interest from others in purchasing the Property," the motion reads. The motion also read that an auction was the "best way to maximize the value for the Estate and its creditors."
