Flowers Used for Cascading Wedding Bouquets
Since, cascading wedding bouquets include arrangement of flowers at various levels, usually long stemmed flowers are selected for this purpose. Roses, calla lilies are therefore the most popular choices for cascading bouquets. Another advantage of using these two flowers is that they are available in myriad colors, hence can be easily combined with other flowers. Exotic flower varieties like gerbera and orchids also look equally stunning. Gerbera is known for its bright bloom and perfectly round shape, hence can render a symmetrical look to the bridal bouquet. Orchids look particularly enticing with their twisted petals and fresh colors. Veronica, freesias and lisianthus are some other varieties that are also used for making cascading bouquets. Tiny flowers such as baby's breath are used as fillers. Along with flowers, leaves and delicate branches also find their way in cascading bouquets. Ivy, myrtle and holly are often used to fulfill the need of greenery in the bouquet.
How to Make a Cascading Bouquet
Bridal bouquets come with a hefty price tag and cascading bouquets are even more expensive. So, if you are a bride on a budget, you would probably wouldn't mind saving a bit on your wedding bouquets. However, you need not have to compromise with the look of the bouquet. By making your own cascading bouquet, you can easily save money on florist's fees. All you have to buy is a flower holder and the flowers of your choice. The holders come in two varieties, one with a straight handle and the other with a slanted handle. Slanted handle is more apt for cascading bouquets. The head of the holder is made of foam which needs to be soaked in water so as to retain the freshness of flowers since, flowers absorb water from the holder head. Place the holder in a narrow necked vase with heavy pebbles at the bottom. Start inserting the greenery of your choice from the outer edge.
For longer bouquet, insert long pieces of greenery, however, don't overdo it as it would make the bouquet very large and difficult to carry. Go on filling the greenery to the interior of the holder but make sure you leave spaces between. The next step is to choose two prominent flowers for the focal point of your bouquet. Tuck them one above the other, slightly off center. Now start inserting remaining flowers around these two flowers, facing in different directions. The flowers at the outermost edge should slightly extend the length of the greenery.
You can either choose the flowers of the same variety or you may combine different varieties together. However, make sure the flowers are all of different sizes so as to enhance the visual effect. Lastly, spray the flowers with a flower sealant so as to trap the moisture and prevent the flowers from wilting. You are now ready to walk the aisle with a pretty cascading bouquet.
If you cannot resist the temptation of cascading bouquet, but find it difficult to pay for the florist's fees or make it yourself, then you can opt for silk cascading bouquets, which look as stunning as real bouquets. Thus, cascading bouquet is definitely your choice if you want to bring some old charm to your wedding.
