Carpet is one of the costliest pieces of furnishings in most of the homes. You spend a lot of money on getting a good quality carpet for your home expecting that it would last long. Though your carpet usually lasts long, yet it doesn't remain looking like new. It gets stained with coffee, tea, sauce; gets burnt; develops holes, etc., over time.

Depending upon the severity of the given damages, they can be categorized as minor and major. Minor damages which usually cover a small area of the carpet can be repaired at home with the help of some simple techniques and a few tools. The major damage of the carpet needs to be repaired by a professional.

Carpet Stains and Burns Repair
The minor damages of the carpet can be small stains and burns. You can repair such damages by simply trimming the ends of the stained or burned carpet fibers. Take a sharp pair of scissors and carefully trim the damaged fiber ends. Make sure that you don't cut them too deep or too much. You may use a pair of manicure scissors or nail clipper to meet the given purpose. In case, the staining material has reached deeper layers of the carpet fibers, you may need to buy some carpet fibers similar to the present carpet. Cut out the damaged fibers of the carpet with the help of the scissors. Take out some new carpet fibers. Put a drop of a clear waterproof adhesive on the base of each replacement fiber. Now attach the fibers to the carpet backing. This process needs to be done with care and attention. This is quite time-consuming as well. You are not supposed to put glue on any other fiber. If you do, you may end up with lumps formed by gluing of the fibers on the carpet.

Carpet Wrinkles Repair
The carpets gets wrinkled or crushed due to the heavy weight of the furniture kept on it. Wrinkles are minor damages of carpet which you can repair time and again. Sprinkle some water on the crushed area so as to moisten the surface. Blow dry that part of the carpet with a hair dryer. While you blow dry, keep rubbing your fingers over the wrinkled fibers. You may even brush the crushed carpet fibers. Constant rubbing along with drying will remove the wrinkles from the carpet. If possible, keep the foot of the furniture on some other area of the carpet for the next couple of weeks. This will help fluffing up of the wrinkled part of the carpet. Regular carpet cleaning can help reduce the possibility of wrinkling of the carpet at pressed parts.

Carpet Hole Repair
Take a sharp knife and cut out the area surrounding the hole from the carpet. Cut from only one side and not throughout the carpet pad. The cut out piece will help you cut a new piece in a pattern exactly matching the part removed from the carpet. You may take the replacement carpet pad from its part covered by furniture. Match the direction of the pile while cutting the patch. Spread carpet glue on the exposed part of the carpet as well as on the backside of the patch. Also, put some glue under the edges of the carpet which surrounds the hole. Place the patch into the hole. Rough the pile up with your fingers. Allow the glue to set and dry for about 10 hours.
