Cargo Trailers: How to Build a Cargo Trailer
Most of us dream of having our own cargo trailer, so that we can carry our bicycle, bike or goods safely from one place to another. If you are one of them, then have a look at the article below, which cites steps of how to build a cargo trailer, motorcycle trailer and a bicycle trailer.
Steps for Building a Cargo Trailer
- The materials required to build cargo trailers are camper, sledgehammer, saws-all and crowbars.
- Dismantle the outside part of a pop-up camper. The trailer frame of the camper is used as the main frame for cargo trailers. Cut the metal siding of the camper with the help of saws-all, sledgehammer and crowbars.
- Cut down the plastic roof, off the camper shell.
- With the saws-all, cut the cabinetry, countertops and beds from inside the trailer.
- With the help of crowbars, pull up and loosen the trailer flooring.
- Remove all the wiring and piping underneath the trailer.
- Cut the lumber to proper length and build the trailer deck by laying the board on top of the frame. Bolt them with lag bolts. If you want, you can leave some space between the two boards so that it can serve as an outlet for water.
- According to the instructions specified by the manufacturer, connect the lighting kit to the rear of the trailer.
- Run the wires from hitch up to the trailer frame so that you can connect the lights to your vehicle plug while pulling the trailer. This way, you can build a cargo trailer.
- Build the main body with 4 pieces of 1*2 lumber. Make a frame like a ladder using brackets of 90 degree and screw everything properly.
- Attach wheels of size 16 inch to the frame, using electric box cover plate.
- Create a trailer arm by cutting and bending it, and drill holes into it so that it can be fixed to the frame. Attach the trailer arm to the frame.
- Fold the electric plate. Drill a hole and bolt it onto the wheel of the bicycle. Screw an eye bolt and connect the trailer arm to it. Use a U-clamp for this connection. This will make your hitch.
- Screw a plywood of the same size to the frame for creating a smooth surface. Here is your bicycle cargo trailer, ready to carry your favorite bicycle.
- Cut three pieces of wood, of length 25 inches, width 2 inches and thickness 1/8 inch. These pieces form the front and rear of the motorcycle cargo. For building the sides of the motorcycle trailer, another two pieces of length 48 inches are required. Bolt all the pieces together, which forms the frame of the trailer.
- Buy a trailer handle from a trailer-parts store, weld it and attach it to the frame.
- Connect an axle of 12 inches. The maximum length of axle should be 40 inches. Attach the wheels on this axle.
- Finally, attach plywood over the frame to make it smooth, to avoid any damage to the motorcycle. These steps can help you build a motorcycle cargo trailer, which can be used for the transportation of your motorcycle.
