Car Towing Equipment
Selecting a correct car towing equipment is essential in order to ensure safety of the automobile while moving from one place to another. Some of the popularly used car towing equipments are flatbed or car trailer, car dolly and flat towing.
Towing Equipment for Cars
Whether you are renting or buying a car towing equipment, consider the type of a car and the reasons for towing. Then only, you will be able to select the right towing and recovery equipment for your automobile. First check out the different options of vehicle towing equipments and analyze their pros and cons. You should consider the size, cost, weight holding capacity of the towing equipment and its braking system for using in case of emergencies. Following are some of the popularly used car towing equipment models.
Flatbed or Car Trailer: Flatbed towing equipment is simply a large truck with a flatbed connected to it. The terms flatbed and car trailer are used synonymously, as both involve the use of sturdy trailers. For towing the car, it is raised and placed in the flatbed or the trailer. The trailer is then attached to the rear of a truck, which serves the main purpose of dragging the towing equipment. Thus, with a car trailer or a flatbed, all the wheels of the towed vehicle remain above the ground.
The flatbed is usually configured at a low height level with extended ramps for easy loading and unloading the vehicle. You can either rent a car trailer from service providers or purchase it for some thousand dollars. Though it is costly; the durability, safety and ease of usage is incomparable to other car towing equipments. In fact, a car trailer is considered as one of the most ideal towing equipments for moving over a long distance.
Car Dolly: Another option of car towing equipment is the car dolly or tow dolly. It is used as a popular method of two-wheeled towing. Unlike a flatbed towing equipment, only the two front wheels of the car are above the ground. It is best suited for towing front-wheel drive cars, in which maximum engine power is operated at the front wheels. In comparison to car trailers, a car dolly is a less expensive option either for renting or buying. Nevertheless, a car dolly has certain disadvantages. For example, the tires that touch the ground have wears and tears, thus reducing the durability.
Flat Towing Equipment: Flat towing is another method, in which all the four wheels of the car or vehicle touch the ground. It is also referred to as four wheel down towing. Flat towing is mostly used for towing recreational vehicles, rather than carrying cars. The towing equipment used for flat towing should be strong enough to carry the whole weight of the car. Considering this, there are certain classes that are categorized according to the weight holding capacity of the car towing equipment. Hence, while opting for this flat towing equipment, select the correct class suitable for your car.
