How to Install a Car Stereo?
Car stereo installation can be a fiddly job and can get you messed up totally! Step 1: The most important thing to consider while car speaker installation, is to purchase the stereo that fits properly in the existing slot of your car. Also, do not forget to buy the correct wiring harness and a radio mounting kit.
Step 2: Now, before installing the car stereo, you will have to remove the old one carefully. For that, you need to disconnect the ground cable from your car battery. It is highly dangerous to work on the electrical system of the car with the negative wire, or the ground cable plugged in.
Step 3: Carefully remove the dash panel to expose the old stereo. Using the right screwdriver, unscrew and slide out the old head unit. Unplug and disconnect all the wires attached to the old stereo. Remove the old stereo carefully and disconnect the old panel.
Step 4: If you have got a wire harness specific to your car, the task becomes extremely simple, as you just have to connect the wires at the back of the new stereo. Plug the connector in the right place in the new stereo.
Step 5: If you were unable to get a wire harness, you will have to connect each wire yourself. Make sure to connect the wires to the respective connectors, according to their polarities. Connect the positive wires from the speakers to the positive connector, present at the back of the stereo. Similarly, connect the negative wires to the negative connector.
Step 6: Once the speakers of the new stereo are connected, you will have to connect the negative wire of the stereo to a bolt, near the dash, where the radio is mounted. You can refer to the car stereo installation manual, to make sure the connections made are right.
Step 7: When all the wires are properly connected to their respective connectors, hook the wires to a single connector.
Step 8: The new stereo is all set to be mounted on the rack. Slide it into the mounting bracket carefully. Now, plug the harness connector into the back of the new stereo.
Step 9: Slide the stereo into the space in the dash and test your new car stereo. If its working fine, it's time to put the dash panel back. Screw it back with the help of a screwdriver.
Step 10: Reconnect the ground cable to your car battery and turn on your car. Your new car stereo is now installed and ready to play loud!
