The benefits of arranging your auto-cover through a hire company when driving in France include being able to make use of the vehicle immediately after arriving in France and being able to drop it off at the hire company when you are finished with your trip. This means one less thing for you to worry about during your stay. This will also bypass the registration process required if you were to bring your own car into the country. You should bear in mind however, that you will still be required to have an international driving license for the named driver of the hire car.
