Captured Love 4

Friction and Foul Play
I met Lewis’ family and let me just say that they are perfect. How did Lewis turn out the way he did? I caught myself thinking of how it would be to be a part of it permanently. His grandparents adore me and I love them right back. His mom and dad already told Lewis that I was the best he was ever gonna get. The thought thrilled me down to my toes.

We played hard in the tournament, and ended up getting second place. We were on our way out when Lewis and I started racing to go get the volleyball half buried in the sand. He got there a second before I did, but being the competitor that I am, I tackled him and leveled him flat for the second time. His family was in shock and awe and they started cheering me on saying that no girl has every got the best of their boy. It was a match made in heaven.

Lewis didn’t take it that way unfortunately. They teased him for the rest of the night and I joined in and said that Lewis had nothing on me. I might have taken it a little too far. I could tell he was a little upset. But I mean I would be too if a girl had just humiliated me and viciously tore apart my ego in front of my family. I felt like I should apologize and then thought the better of it. After all, it wasn’t that big of a deal.

We all went out to eat after at a little Mexican restaurant on the far side of town. Everyone including Dawn had gone inside, but right before I tried to walk in the door, Lewis grabbed me and dragged me to the dark side of the building.

‘What the hell do you think you are doing?" I yelled. He didn’t even give me the courtesy of answering. Oh man, he was pissed. He threw me against the wall and pressed his body against mine.

"Lewis, get the hell off me."

"Did you think that I would just let you get away with that crap?" he bit out. "Not even you and no matter how much my family seems to love you."

"Ha. What are you gonna do about it?" I said bravely but truly rather frightened.

He leaned his face close to mine. "I’m gonna bring you down a notch. Since you’re a girl I guess I can’t beat you senseless. But there are other ways, and I know just how to get to you."

He leaned in and my heart stopped. I could feel his warm breath fanning my face as he got closer and closer.

At that moment, Lewis’ mom came out asking if we were going to come in anytime soon. She didn’t even seem surprised at our positions. He reluctantly released me and stalked off into the restaurant. I trailed behind, still not believing what had just almost happened. I sat far away from him leaving Dawn to sit right next to him. He was silent throughout the whole meal, shooting heated looks in my direction whenever they started to tease him about what had happened.

I knew there was going to be a problem. He was too competitive and pride was a big deal for him. But maybe I had been a little harsh. The awkward night continued. Finally Lewis’ mom spoke up about Lewis’ birthday. It was coming up and she invited me to the party ignoring my objections. She insisted I come. She said she wouldn’t have it any other way.

The next day at school, I skipped the class I had with Lewis. It’s just easier that way. I showed up to the rest of the day because my mom was severely on my case for missing so much school. Every time he was near me, I either left or avoided him by crossing to the opposite side of the room.

The birthday party was coming up and I was not going without some sort of protection. Shoot. I couldn’t go without a present either. So I decided to bring Dawn with me. But still I had to go shopping and get him a gift. Lewis’ grandpa died when he was twelve and I decided to get a watch with his grandpa’s name and date of birth and death for Lewis. Lewis’ fondest childhood memories were of his grandpa and I knew he’d appreciate it. I hoped it would come across as a peace offering. I hated fighting with him.

I rode with Dawn to the party and to my relief; Lewis had seemed to have forgotten everything and was back to his normal self. I started to relax and enjoy the celebration.

Dawn’s phone rang suddenly in the middle of cake and ice cream. It was her mom telling her she needed to get home now. How was I supposed to get home? I didn’t really want to leave. I was having so much fun. Lewis and I had been flirting all night and been playing fun little birthday games. Lewis flashed a smile and said he would be glad take me. I smiled back and thanked him. Dawn left and with her went my security net. But I felt okay. It was apparent everything had blown over.
