Cape Canaveral Attractions
Earlier known as Cape Kennedy, Cape Canaveral is the Mecca of space shuttles and flights. The place is home to the Kennedy Space Center, its main tourist attraction. To know more about Cape Canaveral attractions, read on..
Kennedy Space Center
This destination is on the top of everyone's list. Kennedy Space Center was named after the then president John F. Kennedy. This space center merits a whole day's visit. It is the ultimate experience in myriad space related adventures. You must begin your journey from the Kennedy Space Center Visitors Complex. This privately operated complex is much like an amusement park. You get to climb on board a full sized space shuttle replica, view original moon rock samples and get a hands on experience on the latest space science developments in the complex. You can also tour into NASA's spaceport facilities and visit Rocket Garden, which has on display eight real massive rockets of the past era. Children as well as adults can watch movies at the IMAX Theater, which shows movies on a five-story-high screen. One thing that you need to keep in mind is that this is a working space facility and hence, the visiting timings can be altered without notice.
Cocoa Beach
Thanks to NASA for making the Cocoa Beach a popular tourist spot. The beach lies in the neighborhood of Space Coast, the area dominating Cape Canaveral. Cape Canaveral has about 72 miles of beach area. Canaveral National Seashore, an enclave of plant and animal life, provides a breathtaking view of the Cocoa beach. You can enjoy the sight of some Caribbean bound cruise ships that depart from Port Canaveral. The beach is also lined with seafood restaurants and marinas, which serve members of the cruise ships and the gambling ships.
Miss Cape Canaveral
Thrilling deep sea fishing is what Miss Cape Canaveral offers you. Miss Cape Canaveral is Florida's largest deep sea fishing boat. You get to fish with a professional crew for some big fishes like Grouper, King Mackerel and Bull Dolphin. The boat is located at Port Canaveral and provides half as well as full day deep sea fishing.
Cape Canaveral Lighthouse
The Cape Canaveral lighthouse has been guiding ships from long before anyone can even imagine. The construction work was finished in 1868 and it stands 139 feet above sea level. Today, the lighthouse is nicely restored and two modern 1000 watt searchlights have replaced the original Fresnel lens. The best way to see the lighthouse is to take a bus tour around the Kennedy Space Center. Buses do not stop at the lighthouse, as it is not allowed, however, the bus drives past it and one can have a look at it and take pictures.
Sterling Casino Lines, a floating casino, used to be a very fascinating spot for the tourists but due to expiry of the lease of the ship with the Port Canaveral authorities, the ship has temporarily ended its operations. They are looking for a new location and very soon Cape Canaveral's most famous casino will be back.
Cape Canaveral is a place where you will find ample entertainment for your kids. It not only serves as a vacation tour but also as an educational tour for kids and adults too. Visit Cape Canaveral and have a wonderful time with your family.
