Chapter 17
Michelle's P.O.V.
I took a deep breath and stared into the mirror for the umpteenth time as there was a knock on the bathroom door. Satisfied on how I looked, I flung the door open and smiled up at Jerry for the first time in a long time.
"Ready?" He asked as he took my hand in his.
"More ready than I'd ever be," I said nervously and held onto him tightly. As I did, I thought of how my life had changed within the last year.
I remembered coming home from being kidnapped by my sister and his brother and finding him outside Daniel's house. Sure I was frustrated and annoyed at seeing him, but he only wanted to apologize for his affair with my twin sister. Guilty of what Daniel and I were developing, I also apologized. It turned out that he wanted our relationship to continue with the affairs behind us, but I explained that it couldn't happen because I was in love with someone else. Sure he was disappointed and upset, but after accusing himself about how he deserved it for cheating with my sister, he agreed that we weren't meant for each other. Unlike other couples, our divorce wasn't stressful because we remained on excellent speaking terms and soon became close friends. I still felt sorry for him every time I thought about our divorce though; I had someone to turn to, but he didn't.
Rachael was doing time in jail with my mother for attempted murder. It took them a while, but they eventually admitted everything to the court. It turned out that Rachael was still angry at me for giving birth to her former boyfriend's children and wanted revenge. She wanted to hurt me in any way possible; so she decided to get my mother, husband and Terry involved. As if hurting me physically wasn't enough, she ended up getting pregnant for Jerry as well. However, she lost the baby a couple of days before she was sent to jail.
Terry recovered very quickly from his injuries and was discharged from the hospital. He was immediately taken to jail where he committed suicide a couple of minutes after arriving. Although I hated him, I still felt badly upon hearing the news because my girls were never going to meet their father... not that I wanted them to. Their lives were going great without being aware of what was going on.
"Sweetheart," Jerry tugged my hand a little. "They are waiting on you."
I felt my face turn bright red as I looked up and saw Daniel waiting patiently at the end of the aisle with a beautiful smile on his face. Taking a deep breath, I smiled at my bridesmaids informing them that it was time to walk up the aisle before turning to Jerry.
"I'm nervous," I told the man who were once my husband and now my friend.
"You'd be fine, don't worry." He kissed me on my forehead. "You've done it before and trust me, you were one beautiful bride."
Blushing again, I took a step forward and before I knew it, I was slowly making my way to the man I loved. The sound of cameras snapping and people whispering made me feel self-conscious, but I tried to concentrate on the song "All My Life" by Kc and Jojo as I tried to steady my steps to the rhythm. I found that looking into Daniel's handsome face also made me relax a bit, so I did so.
I had finally made it to the top of the aisle and my hands were intertwined with Daniel's. We stared into each other's eyes as the pastor spoke. Soon, it was time to recite our vows. We spoke every word as if there was no one watching. For a moment I actually forgot that we were in a church! Then it was the moment we were both waiting for. "I now pronounce you as mister and Misses Daniel Scott; you now have the legal right to kiss the bride!" Everyone laughed at the pastor's words, but for Daniel and I, it was a moment of pure excitement that we had waited years for. We kissed each other hungrily and impatiently as if it was our last time. We actually had to be reminded that we were still at the wedding.
We were just about to walk down the aisle together to sign the book when we heard a loud gasp. Like everyone else, our attention was turned towards the problem. We saw that everyone was gazing through the door, so we did also. Just then, Emma walked through the door hand in hand with a guy. I stared at her in disbelief. I haven't seen her since the day she and Daniel's divorced was settled and as expected, we barely spoke. Now, here she was at my wedding with another guy! One part of me was happy to see that she had moved on, but another part of me was scared that she would ruin our wedding. As if Daniel was reading my thoughts, he tensed a bit and kissed me on the cheek reassuringly.
Emma finally looked up and our eyes met. Surprisingly, she blew me a kissed and smiled before she took a seat in the back row. Relieved that she wasn't going to start any trouble, we signed our names in the book. I smiled at my signature. I was finally "Michelle Scott"!
Afterwards, everyone came and congratulated us and took pictures. Even Emma came up to us and introduced the guy as her new boyfriend. She admitted to Daniel that there was a part of their relationship when she cheated and she apologized for that. Emma and I both came to terms with the things we had done to each other over the last few months. She said that she still wanted us to be friends and I agreed.
The day was flying quickly and it was soon time for Daniel and I to leave for our honeymoon, but first there was the reception. It went smoothly to my surprise, saying as Daniel's sister planned it. Emma caught the bouquet of flowers signifying that she was next in line to be married. Jerry gave a short, but sweet speech on his wishes for Daniel and me to have a healthy marriage. Even the twin, who were nine-years-old by this time, said a little something on how they were happy to have Daniel and me together. It was all so sweet.
"Let's have a toast to a long, happy, healthy marriage for my best friend and Daniel!" Emma screamed as soon as the girls had finished. "May this marriage be the best decision either of them have ever made!"
Everyone laughed as they hit the glasses together. I looked around the room and saw Jerry sneaking out. Maybe it was too much for him to handle saying as he wasn't completely over me. I felt sorry for him, but I'd have to comfort him after the honeymoon. This was the time for my husband and me.
