Canker Sore on Lip

Though it heals within two to three weeks without any requirement of treatment, but the pain and discomfort caused by it makes us opt for an appropriate treatment.
  • One can opt for different over the counter medicines to get rid of the same. These medicines will also help in easing the pain.
  • Washing the mouth with steroid mouth rinser will also help. Opt for the one suggested by your doctor. This mouth rinser will reduce the pain and will also help in alleviating the inflammation.
  • Increasing the content of vitamin B complex and vitamin C in your diet will also help to a large extent. The presence of zinc in the body will also help to a large extent. Hence, make sure that you consume enough of zinc.
  • While brushing your teeth with toothpaste, make sure that you opt for a sulfate free one. While brushing, take care that you do not hurt the sore.
  • Take care that the area around the canker sore is clean. Hence, wash it regularly. If required, you can make use of lukewarm water to wash it. While washing, make sure that your hands are clean. Washing your mouth and lips regularly will keep them away from bacteria.
  • Rub ice on the canker sore. This will prevent its further growth.
  • Applying petroleum jelly to the canker sore will also help in alleviating the pain of the situation.
Make sure that you do not consume food which is spicy or hot. Foods containing salt and acidic foods like citrus fruit should also be avoided. Eating this kind of food will aggravate the condition. Also, make sure that you consume enough of water. Avoid too much lip movement and also talking. Do not touch the canker sore often. Touching it will pass on the germs present on your fingers to the sore which will thus intensify it.
