Foods to Avoid in a Candida Cleanse Diet
Sugar: Sugar is said to aggravate Candida overgrowth, and hence, foodstuffs high in sugar should be completely avoided when on a Candida diet. Artificial sweeteners, honey, chocolates, candy, fruit juices, fruits like apples, bananas, grapes, etc., should be avoided. One should also stop consumption of alcoholic beverages like beer, rum, vodka, whiskey, etc., as they too contain sugar.
Fermented Foods: Fermented foods contain high amount of yeast, hence, they are not recommended in the Candida diet. All fermented foodstuffs like cakes, breads and even alcoholic drinks should be avoided. All bakery products contain yeast and high amount of glutens, and hence, one should stay away from it.
Foods Rich in Carbohydrates: Foods rich in carbohydrate like cereals, bread, pasta, macaroni, rice, etc., should not be consumed. One should also stay away from starchy foods like potato, yams and sweet potatoes. Read more on list of high carbohydrate foods.
Other Foodstuffs: All processed foodstuffs like burgers, chips, pizza, etc., should be avoided. You should also stay away from gravy, mushroom, pickles, sauces, cheese cream, margarine, ham, sausage, bacon, corn, peanuts. Foods to Eat in a Candida Cleanse Diet
Vegetables: You can have vegetables like turnips, cabbage, cauliflower, broccoli, spinach, onion, tomatoes, cucumber, parsley, radish, and other green leafy vegetables. Vegetables are said to contain enzymes that help in reducing Candida overgrowth. It is also safe to have sprouts, kidney beans, peas, black beans, legumes, and nuts like hazel nuts, pumpkin seeds, almonds, etc. Read more on vegetables.
Dairy and Fish: Yogurt, low fat cottage cheese, soy milk and eggs can be consumed. You can even have tuna, salmon and other types of seafood. Cooked chicken, chicken breast, and other unprocessed meat can also be included into your diet.
Other Foodstuffs: It is safe to eat quinoa, barley, millet, chapatis or bread made of whole grain flour, tofu, virgin coconut oil, linseed, oat and olive oil, etc. In case of drinks, you can have herbal or ginger tea, almond milk or protein shakes. Read more on Candida diets.
It is advised not to consume these foodstuffs in large amounts as they can produce other side effects. For e.g, although yogurt is effective in controlling Candida overgrowth, its excessive intake can result in the formation of heavy mucus, and consequently in Candida overgrowth. Candida cleanse diet is easier to follow, although it may not seem so. On the other hand, you can even find substitutes for the foodstuffs that are forbidden.
