Can Weightloss Cure or Help with Diabetes ?

Can losing weight help with or even cure your diabetes ? It's well established that being overweight will increase your chances of developing type II diabetes now new research is looking into a link between weight loss and diabetes improving and even disappearing altogether.
Diabetes, a disease that seems to have a greater prevalence among those who are overweight, has raised the question, "Could weight loss cure or help with diabetes?" The reason this is questioned is the fact that those with Type II diabetes especially have symptoms that are highly related to being overweight. Those who have Type II diabetes deal with insulin resistance the inability of the body to use insulin properly in order to metabolize glucose, starches and sugars into energy.

In many of the cases of Type II diabetes, it is brought on by issues with the person’s weight, such as a recent excessive weight gain or a lack of exercise. Recent studies have found that a protein molecule found in fat cells blocks insulin. Therefore, the more overweight a person is the more of this protein that they have and therefore if they were to loose weight they will as a result have less of this protein and thus not suffer from this insulin blocking anymore.

For years, weight maintenance and weight loss has been encouraged as a way to help control Type II diabetes, but until this recent studies result it was not known as to why this was such an important factor. Though this is a great stride toward helping those with diabetes, this will most likely not be a cure for the disease. Mainly due to the fact that if the weight returns, so will the symptoms and in many cases those who suffer from diabetes also have other factors that disable them from maintaining a certain weight.

In addition, Type II diabetes, though prevalent in those who are overweight does show up in those who do not have a weight problem as well, therefore this would not even be a factor in these cases. Either way, weight loss and maintenance can help those with Type II diabetes to live a healthier more enjoyable lifestyle free from some of their symptoms. That is a win-win situation for all who suffer.
