The Epilogue

~12 years later~

'Opal! Where are you?!'
Jade's impatient voice interrupted my daydream. I'd been searching through my old stuff and the memories made me forget about my original plan.
I walked down the stairs to find Jade there, looking like she was about the murder someone. I had a suspicion of who that could be.
'What's wrong Jade?'
She scowled. 'It's that little monster of yours. I know I promised to keep him busy this afternoon, but if I have to spend another ten minutes with the kid, I'll do something I'm going to regret later.'

I sighed. 'What did he do this time?'
'Pulling my hair, destroying my make-up, throwing with my tampons, telling strangers I'm stupid and so on..,' Jade threw her hands in air. 'Don't get me wrong, I love him to pieces, but...'
I laid a hand on her shoulder.
'Don't worry, I know how you feel. I'll talk to him.'
Jade was 17 now, a beautiful young girl, but a little impatient sometimes. That didn't go well with 'my little monster'.
'Wait here for a moment.'

I walked to the living room and sat down on the couch.
'Geez, I wonder where he could be.'
Silently I stood up and walked over to the curtains. I pulled them away and there was my son.
'Gotcha!' I said, smiling.
'Ahw. How did you find me so fast?' He pouted.
'With my superpowers' I winked and lifted him into my arms.
'That's impossible!' He giggled.
I tickled him. 'All mothers have superpowers, ask granny if you don't believe me.'
He wriggled in my arms.
'Mom, stop it!'

I thudded down on the couch and looked my son deep into his gray blue eyes.
I always had trouble being mad at him. His face was innocence itself, with his brown wavy hair. He was a little copy of Quinn.
William.
I thought about the first moment I realized I was pregnant. I was ecstatic. It was 5 years ago, Quinn and I had been together for 7 years. We had married a year before that, a beautiful day full of love and friendship.
I focused on my son.
'Will, what did you do?' I asked him, trying not to laugh at his guilty face.
'Nothing mom' He said, with puppy eyes that were saying 'It wasn't me!'.
'Don't you lie to me young man.' I said, more serious now. 'I just talked to Jade and she said that you haven't been nice to her.'
He looked down, his bottom lip trembling.

'I'm sorry mom.'
He hated it when I was mad at him.
'I know honey. But you really should try to be nice to Jade, she is your aunt after all.'
'I'm trying!' He said. 'But teasing her is so much fun.' His eyes sparkled mischievously.
'You are so much like your uncles. And your father, of course.'
'Oh so now it's my genes that did it?' Quinn's voice sounded from the doorway.
Both Will and myself grinned at him, equally happy to see him.
'Dad!' Will ran over to him and Quinn caught him.

'Hello bandit.' Quinn said, while ruffling his hair. 'What did you do this time? Upset aunt Jade again?'
Will nodded, unabashed.
Quinn laughed.
'Not helping' I murmured.
'Oh. Yeah. Ehm, Will, you should apologize to Jade and promise to me that you'll be nice to her, okay?'
Will nodded, he'd do everything for his dad.
And he ran of to find Jade.

I walked over to Quinn and he wrapped his arms around me.
'Playing the angry mom again?' He murmured against my hair.
'Yeah. Because his dad was nowhere to be found.' I grinned, my head against his shoulder.
'I swear, he is so like Ky and Jasper, it's not normal.'
'Your beautiful character must be somewhere too.' Quinn winked.
'Oh shut up'
And I kissed him.
Kissing Quinn, with no one around, was like 12 years ago, when we just met. Without the responsibility of a child, a house and two jobs.
These little moments made my day, but they were interrupted almost every time.
If not by Will, than...

Someone cleared his throat loudly.
'Don't you two have other important grown up things to do?'
We broke apart and saw Harry and Shane.
I rolled my eyes.
'When will you two stop with walking in on us? You'd think you had something better to do after 12 years.'
Harry reached for his heart.
'Touché, Mrs. Cleaver.'

'So, to what do we owe this honor?' Quinn asked, his arm still around me.
Shane shrugged. 'We decided to do you a favor and come around for dinner.'
Harry punched his shoulder.
'A bit of modesty would be nice here. What he meant is: If you have time and enough food, we'd like to join for dinner.'
I frowned.
'Enough food for you? That's a challenge.' I grinned after that.
'But you're most welcome, you know that.'

I walked to the kitchen and found Jade and Will there. Jade was on her knees, on the same level as Will.
'Jade, I'm sorry.' Will said, using the same puppy eyes again, he knew only too well that Jade couldn't resist that.
'And I promise that I'll be the nicest nephew in the whole country. No, the whole world!'
Jade smiled.
'You're forgiven, little monster.'
Will flung his arms around her neck and hugged her tight.
His face lit up, when he remembered something.
'You know what we're in? A tr...truce!'
I stroked his hair and exchanged a glance with Quinn, who was watching us.
'You'd better call it a tie honey, those work best, trust me.'
