Can We Just Call It a Tie? Chapter 12

'No one is allowed to mess with my friend, especially not my brother.'
Not fast enough, I know.
But it was within two weeks, so I've been slower than this ;)
I think I should warn you: The next chapter is going to be the last one. It's not a very long story and I'd planned about 13 chapters.
So, don't be too shocked, when the next chapter arrives.

Meme - No of course not! Just a little bit late...
Miranda Griggs - That is completely normal. Cliffhangers are mean.

Enjoy reading everybody!

'If you can't get someone out of your head, then maybe you shouldn't...'

Chapter 12

*Opal's POV*
He noticed. I really should've put more effort into acting normal. I so didn't want to discuss this with him. I tried to wave it away.
'What do you mean? Nothing's wrong.' I said in a normal voice.
He raised an eyebrow. 'You're not fooling me Opal, what's bugging you?'
Damn. So far my acting skills.
I couldn't meet his gaze, he couldn't see the tears that were welling up in my eyes.
He lifted my chin.
'Opal?'

And it was too much for me. I started to sob, my head in my hands.
How could I tell him how ashamed I was? How I guilty I felt for using him?
I'd wanted to do something wild, something not like me, something rash and I got carried away by the mood that stupid room had created.
I felt guilty, because that shouldn't have been the reason to sleep with him.
How could I tell him all that? He would hate me forever.
He wrapped his arms around my waist and pulled me close to him. He didn't say anything, he just let me cry.
'I'm s-so sorry...' I finally said.
'Why?' He asked quietly.

And I told him. Everything. How I felt, why I did what I did and I tried to convince him that I didn't regret it, I just regretted the reason. And I was so sorry.
When I was finished, he was silent.
'That was it?' He asked, frowning.
I was confused. 'Yeah? Wasn't that bad enough?'
He chuckled.
'I expected something seriously bad, that you were pregnant or that your brothers had murdered someone or that you had to move to Russia, but this...so you did something rash, who cares? I know I don't.' He winked.
Relief washed through me.
'I knew you weren't acting everything you said back then.' He grinned.
I smiled sheepishly. 'The scene was too familiar, the words flowed naturally.'
'Don't worry about it anymore.' He said and to help me do that, he kissed me urgently.
And I didn't worry anymore.

Hours later, Quinn had returned home already, my phone rang.
'Hello?'
'Opal? Can you come over please?' Thera said, but her voice was weak and she sounded like she'd been crying all day.
'Sure, give me ten minutes.'
Worried, I grabbed my coat and ran to her house.
She looked awful. Her hair was a mess, her wore her oldest clothes and her eyes were red from crying.
I hugged her and she was crying against my shoulder.
'Honey, what happened to you? What's wrong?'
We sat down on the couch and she started.

'Well, yesterday, I was in a restaurant with Ky. And it was so much fun, I had one of the best nights ever. One moment, I had to go to the bathroom. When I wanted to walk outside, I heard Ky talking to someone.' She paused for a moment, her hands trembling.
'H-he was telling someone about our diner. And he said: 'Yeah, we went to the restaurant too and she fell for me.' I was surprised of course, that he knew I liked him. But he wasn't finished yet. 'I know, stupid. It could never work between us, I was only pretending.''
My mouth fell open. Ky had said that? How could he! I thought he liked her!
Thera didn't need to finish her story, I hugged her again.
'I trusted him, he had healed me from Ron and now...I don't know what to do anymore...' She sobbed.
And suddenly, I was furious. No one is allowed to mess with my friend, especially not my brother.

'Stay here, I'll be back soon. I'm going to get some movies and chocolate, okay?' I lied. If I told here was I really was going to do, she'd stop me.
She nodded and I was running home, my anger made me run faster.
To my surprise, I found Quinn on the doorstep.
'Hello' He grinned 'I missed you already.' And he wrapped his arms around my waist, but I pushed him aside.
'Not now Quinn.' And I ran inside. He followed me, looking confused. I didn't blame him, but for the moment, I didn't care.
'KY! WHERE ARE YOU!' I yelled. I ran upstairs and busted into his room. He was sitting on his bed with a book, while Jasper was playing a game.
He looked surprised to see me this angry.
'What's up sis?' He asked.
'Explain.' I ordered.

'Explain what?' He asked confused. Like I believed that.
'Explain to me why Thera is at home, heart broken, crying over you.'
He stood up, worried now. 'Why is she crying? What did I do?'
'She heard you talking on the phone, telling someone about your date that night and that you knew she fell for you and that it was stupid, because you two would never work.' I told him through clenched teeth.
He face went blank.
'Oh no! Did she think I was talking about her?' He paced around in the room and stopped suddenly.
'She fell for me?' That piece of information just started to sink in.
'Yes, you blind fool! And now she thinks you don't like her at all. You healed her broken heart, but now...'

'I broke it all over again...Oh what am I supposed to do! I was talking to Jasper and he reminded me of a date, ages ago! It was the same setting and I knew that the girl liked me. I just wanted attention.'
Relief washed through me and I felt lighter.
'Thank goodness. I was so close to smacking you, you have no idea.' I sighed.
'But...What am I going to do?' Ky asked.
I rolled my eyes.
'You are coming with me and we are going to set this straight. Jas, you are coming too, as witness.'
Quinn sneaked up behind me.
'You're coming too' I said. 'But just because I want too.'
'Don't you think that we need a plan?' Quinn asked, grinning.
'A plan? What kind of plan?'
'Something that will convince her immediately.' He said. 'Something that will remove all her doubts.'

Jasper nodded enthusiastically. 'Yeah, something romantic, chicks always fall for that.'
I smacked his shoulder playfully.
'Watch what you're saying.'
'So what's the plan?' Quinn asked.
'Don't look at me' I said 'You are the guys here. You make up a plan.'
'But you're a girl' Quinn countered.
'I know.' I said dryly.
Jasper rolled his eyes.

'What he means is that you're the one who should come up with a romantic plan or something.'
'That's a really nice idea, darling, but you are forgetting that Opal and Thera are two complete different persons. So Opal's ideal proposal will be the opposite of Thera's. But it might be handy to hear, maybe Quinn can use it.' Ky said.
I blushed.
'Shut up Kyanite. Doesn't anyone have an idea?'
'Kyanite? Your name is Kyanite?' Quinn whispered, trying to stifle his laugh.
'Thanks Opal' Ky murmured.
Quinn's face lit up.
'I have the perfect idea! The only thing we need is a camera.'

*Thera's POV*
An hour had passed before Opal returned.
'I am so sorry it took so long. My mother had to insist on me going to the grocery. And I'd left my phone at Quinn's, so I couldn't contact you.'
'It's okay' I sighed.
I was glad that she was with me, I couldn't stand being alone at the moment.
My heart felt so heavy in my chest, like all the feelings I had for Ky were trying to get out, but were stopped by these horrible words I heard.
After I'd listened to that devastating phone call, I'd pretended nothing was wrong. I broke down the moment I'd closed the door after him.
Ky was too good to be true. He was so different than Opal, but somewhere in his way of doing things, I'd recognized some familiarities. Not to mention that he was good looking.
He had allowed me to heal, to gather the pieces of my heart. And I started to fall in love with him in return. He like me for me. Or I thought he did.
How could I ever give someone my heart when it was shattered?

Opal and I sat down on the couch.
'I have chocolates, with caramel, your favorites and some movies. Which one do you want to watch?'
I looked at the titles. Stardust, Titanic, 27 Dresses, all romantic comedies.
Tears welled up in my eyes.
Opal's eyes widened.
'Oh I'm so sorry, I totally forgot you're not in the mood of watching these. Well, as a backup, I brought The Matrix. Let's watch that one.'
She pushed the DVD into the DVD player and pressed play.
'I'm going to make some hot chocolate too, you want some?'
I nodded. Her effort was sweet, but actually nothing appealed to me.
The movie started, but to my great surprise, I saw Ky's face.
Was this a sick joke?

Ky was talking to Jasper, who was holding to the camera.
'Dude, stop filming, its annoying.'
'Opal?' I asked.
'Don't you think this is the moment to declare your love to Thera?' Jasper's voice sounded teasingly.
'Yeah?' Opal asked from the kitchen.
'No, never mind.' I said. I wanted to see what he would say.
The Ky on the screen blushed lightly.
'No.'
My heart sank.
'I want to do that live. Not because you're coincidentally holding a camera.'
Suddenly, I heard the door of their room open and Jasper aimed the camera at the noise.
In the doorway stood a furious Opal, with Quinn behind her, looking confused.
'Explain.' Opal said.

'Explain what?' Ky asked, confused.
'Explain to me why Thera is at home, heart broken, crying over you.' Opal told him.
What...? This must've been this afternoon. She didn't go to her home to get movies, but to confront Ky! And she didn't want me to find out. But Jasper had forgotten to stop the camera, so I could follow every word.
I heard Ky explaining what really happened. Another date? Ages ago?
'He wasn't talking about me?' I asked the screen.
'No of course not.' A voice behind me answered.
I jumped and turned around.
And there he was.
'Ky?' I asked, not able to believe my eyes.
He walked over to me.

'I'm so sorry I caused you so much pain, without knowing I did that.' Ky said, looking into my eyes, his fluid chocolate colored eyes trying to convince me.
'And I wanted to tell you that I've fallen for you and that, if you're willing, I'd like you to be my girlfriend.' He finished, smiling.
I could only stare.
'You're serious, aren't you?' I finally asked.
'As serious as I'll ever be.' He said determined.
I felt that, inside my chest, the pieces of my heart were glued together again.
'I'd love to be your girlfriend.' I said, grinning like a madwoman.
'Good' He said and kissed me like we'd been apart for three months.
'Okay folks, that's a wrap!' I suddenly heard Jasper say.
I broke apart from Ky and looked around.

Opal, Jasper ánd Quinn walked over to us, all grinning of course.
I glared at my friend.
'What did you do?'
'Nothing' She said innocent.
'Yeah right.' I said.
Ky wrapped his arms around me from behind.
'She is telling the truth....sort of. The only thing we did was make a record of what happened this afternoon. Opal was seriously planning to make my life extremely miserable.'
I could imagine that.
I ran over to her and hugged her.
'Thank you so much.' I whispered.
'Anytime' She answered.

*Opal's POV*
I walked home with Quinn. I felt content, happy that I helped two important people in my life.
'That was a great idea' I told him.
'Thanks. Simple but effective are my favorite kind of plans.' Quinn smiled.
'They're so cute together' I sighed.
'It does mean that you'll have to endure them 'cute together' a lot.' Quinn warned.
I groaned. 'I'd forgotten about that.'
'You can always come over to my place.' Quinn said mischievously.
'I'll remember that.' I said.
But happy as I was, something tugged at my heart. Something that I didn't want to acknowledge.

What is Quinn to you? Your friend? Your lover? Not your boyfriend, he didn't ask.
A little voice kept telling me that.
Opal, don't be ridiculous, you know he likes you.
Do you? He never told you.
The little voice was right.
You could ask him?
Too scary...
But if you want to know...
And so battle went on and on inside my heart.

After a bad night, I decided that I was going to ask him. I dialed his number, but he didn't answer his phone.
Let's visit his house than. I knocked on the door.
Jade opened the door, looking sad.
'Opal, do you know where Quinn is?'
'No? Why? Isn't he at home?'
'No, he's gone. All day. Without saying anything.'
I was seriously worried now and called him again, but he still didn't answer his phone.
I walked upstairs, to look inside his room. Maybe there was a clue.
Nothing of course. The room was clean and Quinn-less.
I fell down on his bed. Where could he be? Why didn't he tell anyone?
I walked downstairs again and found Jade in the kitchen.
'Jade, I'm going to look for him in town, okay?'
She nodded.
My eyes fell on a little note on the fridge, Quinn's writing.

The greatest thing you'll ever learn is just to love and be loved in return.

Why did these words sound so familiar?
