Can I optimise my website myself?

Can you optimize your website for the search engines youreself?
Many people try their hand at website optimization or SEO by themselves. They were told by someone that it wasn’t hard, so they have had a go at doing it themselves. These people and I’m sure there are a few exceptions, probably aren’t business men or women. Why have I come to this conclusion? Well business people don’t have the time needed to launch a successful SEO campaign.

SEO isn’t quantum mechanics, however, it does take a lot of time and hard work to make it a success and most business people just don’t have the time. I would suspect that even if they did have the time they still wouldn’t do it. Just because you have the time it doesn’t mean you will do something, you want it done right and as quickly as possible. A service you could not provide if you’re just learning SEO.

Another really important thing to remember is some techniques you might adopt for your website may be considered spam by the search engines. This will get your website banned. You really don’t want that to happen. Once a search engine bans your website it is very difficult to reverse. Sometimes search engines may never unban your website.

So to answer the first question, can I optimize my website myself? Yes you can but that is not the question you should be asking yourself. Below are some of the questions you should ask yourself before you embark on DIY optimization.

Do I have the time to self optimize?

Ask anyone in the search engine optimization industry and they will tell you that it is very time consuming. That’s why businesses employ SEO experts to do this for them.

Can You Afford to Take The Time Out?

Another way of looking at it is would your business suffer because you are concentrating on SEO? The thing with website optimization is that you have to continually work at it and put the hours in. Once your website receives good ranking it’s not enough to just end it there. If you don’t keep optimizing your website you won’t stay at the top for long.

I found more information on DIY optimisation here. I have always used this company for my website optimisation needs, they really helped me.

So to close, if you want it done right with no hassle to yourself then hire a professional.
