Calm Panic Attacks with Self Help

All of a sudden, you have difficulty breathing, and your chest feels like something very heavy is pressing on it. Your heartbeat pounds loudly in your subconscious, your hands become very sweaty, and you have trouble thinking. In addition, you're so dizzy that the room seems to be going around in circles. You're having a panic attack, a condition which afflicts many people all over the world.
If you experience panic attacks you are not the only one. Depending on the severity of the attack these are some of the symptoms you can feel. You can feel like you have a weight on your chest, it is hard to breath and you feel your heartbeat racing. Along with sweaty palms, difficulty in thinking straight and the room seems to be spinning out of control.

People who experience anxiety attacks can feel isolated and embarrassed by their reactions to everyday situations. Panic attacks don't make sense, so people who experience them can have feelings of inferiority. In order to ask for the much-needed help, a person will have to get past the embarrassment. Some people may require prescription medication. Many have also learned about anxiety self help techniques.

You must understand that your body's natural "fight or flight" instinct triggers panic attacks. Perceiving that a threat is immanent, your natural mental and nervous defense mechanisms are activated, despite the logical knowledge that no actual harm is on the horizon. To battle anxiety, you need to be fully cognizant of the actual reality you are encountering.

An accepted anxiety self help method is self hypnosis. When a panic attack comes along, inhale deeply, then exhale, and repeat this some couple of times. While inhaling and exhaling, count backwards from ten or twenty. Concentrate on relaxing your muscles initially from the feet going up to the top of your head.

When you want to overcome an attack, some people use visualization. When people use this option they have a safe place in their mind that they go to. It could be a place from childhood, or it could be a room in your own home, such as your living room or kitchen. When people that experience these kind of attacks feel one coming on, they will imagine themselves in their safe place where they feel relaxed and confident.

There is plenty of information out there so if these anxiety self help techniques don't work don't be afraid to look other places. There is a plethora of information geared specifically to those that suffer from panic attacks in both books and on the web. A little effort will go a long way so don't tolerate being a victim.

Finding out how to stop panic attacks can help you to feel more relaxed in your everyday life. You will no longer fear going out in public because you will know how to control your body's panic reaction. You might still have panic attacks, but with the confidence that you know how to control them and will not be overwhelmed by them.
