The cabbage soup diet has been said to be a great way to lose the excess weight, based on the theory that cabbages have certain special fat-burning abilities. One has to simply follow the week-long diet and one can see the results immediately. The plan claims to help lose 10 pounds in a week's time. This diet is a low fat, low calorie, high fiber diet.
This diet is very very low in calories. Other than water and cabbage soup, there are some very low calorie foods that are prescribed. This needs to be strictly monitored if one wants to have the best results. Many times, people give up on this diet 'cause it is not easy to restrict oneself to a limited range of low calorie foods. These include certain vegetables, fruits, skim milk and beef. But all of these are not prescribed for a single day. One has to completely give up alcohol when on this diet. The formula basically is to have as much cabbage soup as possible to up the chances of weight loss.

- Day 1 - Have as much cabbage soup as possible. Have plenty of fruits excluding bananas. Drink plenty of water, tea without sugar, black coffee and cranberry juice. Just make sure that you remain hydrated.
- Day 2 - Have as much cabbage soup as possible. Avoid fruits all day today, instead opt for low calorie vegetables. All vegetables are OK except corn, peas and beans. For dinner you can have a baked potato with butter.
- Day 3 - Combine the fruits and vegetables of the days earlier, but keep in mind the ones that you cannot have and avoid them. Keep following the cabbage soup diet.
- Day 4 - Have cabbage soup in desired quantities. Eat up to 8 bananas and as much skim milk as you want.
- Day 5 - Have great quantities of cabbage soup throughout the day. 6 fresh tomatoes, up to 20 ounces of chicken, fish or beef and at least 8-10 glasses of water.
- Day 6 - Eat vegetables and meat today. You can even have 2-3 steaks if you please. Add to that fresh salads but absolutely no baked potato. Have the cabbage soup at least once in the whole day.
- Day 7 - Have the cabbage soup, unlimited vegetables and fruit juices that are not sweetened. Also supplement your diet with two cups of brown rice.
- Try different combinations to add to the soup to bring variety. Like tomato juice, onions, bouillon and spices.
- It is very important to have a good (multi) vitamin supplement to avoid any deficiencies that might develop as a result of this diet.
- Follow this diet for ONLY 7 days. Then take a break for some days before starting it again.
- Have plenty of water throughout this program to help you stay hydrated.
