Buying Used Books: A Guide
Wealthy car collectors like to buy old and new automobiles. Fashionistas travel far and wide to shop for clothes, shoes and other accessories. If you are a bona fide booklover, then it is a no-brainer that books are what you hunt for. As a voracious reader, you have probably read most of the books in your local library that are of interest to you. You have probably also established a borrow-and-lend relationship with your fellow book-loving friends.

However, any book afficianado is wont to find out the incredible, satisfying feeling of running your fingers over the spines of your own collection of books. Indeed, if you are able to, you should invest in your own library—not only for your own personal enjoyment and education but also for the sake of your children and grandchildren who will then be encouraged to discover the joys of reading too.

Used books for buyers on a budget

The printing, publishing and distribution of a book are all costly processes and this is why that brand-new bestseller in your local bookstore can set you back by quite a lot. But whether you are a student, a professor, a researcher or simply a reading fanatic, you need not worry about burning a hole in your wallet every time you want a good read. The chances are that there is a used bookstore in your area.

Used textbooks and other academic publications tend to go to the library but some of them also find their way to resellers. Resellers will then sell these books to buyers who are looking for the titles. Buying used books is a practical and economic idea that is popular among many book buyers on tight budgets. Not only do new books tend to be expensive, but some of them can also be quite rare—some have even stopped being published. In these cases, your best bet would be to hit one of the nearest booksale outlets in your area.

A book for everyone

Bookstores selling used volumes usually have a wide variety of books at their disposal. One of the most common books that people look for are textbooks and this is not surprising. Whether you love to read or not, your class probably requires you to have the subject textbook that is necessary for you to study before you graduate. Many students tend to go to used bookstores for their textbooks because they want to save money. Even though the textbook is available in the bookstore, it probably costs a lot. If the student needs to buy several textbooks for that semester, then he or she is likely to have to skimp on other things by buying new books. Just be sure of the edition of the book that your professor requires you to have. Many textbooks have several editions—each one presenting new or different data to the previous one.

If you can't find the textbook that you are looking for, then don't despair. There are still plenty of used bookstores that you can try.

Buying tips

When shopping for used books, do not be immediately tempted by the very low prices. There are some situations where the present condition of the book falls far below the asking price, in which case you may even be paying too much for the book. Before you purchase the book, make sure that it has all its pages. You don't want to be in the middle of reading and find out that one half of a chapter is missing. Do not be blinded by the glossy cover that the book may have—always insist on seeing the book first. You may also want to check the current prices for that book in the market. Some resellers cheat unsuspecting buyers by charging a much higher price for a used book. For instance, you may come across a used book that is selling for twice as much as the same book in another reseller. Or perhaps you may find a used book that is a mere fraction lower than a brand new copy.

Being an educated book buyer will help you take advantage of good deals and own the books you want. At Books Buyer, you can have your say about buying and selling books.
