Learn some great tips on buying a holiday home in a foreign country.
Buying a Vacation Home in a Foreign Country
Once you have decided that you want a vacation home in a foreign country it can be a complicated process to find that ideal paradise. If you already have a specific country in mind you should start doing research on that location. With the power of the internet at the tips of your fingers you can search for properties anywhere in the world. An example of some of the great sites out there with lots of vacation properties for rent and sale is HolidayHomes.ca.

If you don't already have a location then you will definitely need to work on narrowing this down. Different locations are for different people, try to pick something that would match your personality or interests. For example a farm house in the middle of England might be ideal for some people but if you really love golf you may want to consider a region with a bright, warm climate with a house or apartment close to a golf course.

Once you think you have your location nailed down, you should plan a trip to it. It's important before you start considering what property you wish to buy that you get a feeling for the country and it's culture. Make sure you meet lots of locals and ex-pats if you can find them. Other people will always give you the best information and indication of whether or not it is the region that you would like to take periodic vacations in.

And remember, it may have looked great on the internet or in a library, but when you get there it might be a different story. The only way you will know for sure is of course to visit that place then come back home and sleep on it for a few weeks. If you are undecided then you probably want to restart your search.

Now once you have that country in mind, it's time to imagine the type of home you wish to buy. What types of features does it have? What are the 'must haves' for you? Make a 'must have' or wish list of features and things you require in a home.

Do you want a large yard? Should it have exactly 4 bedrooms? These are the things you should include on your wish list. Keep in mind that your vacation home is going to require maintenance year round so you may want to work this into your decision.

The next step is to get a general idea of what the median cost of property sales for in your chosen region. This is important because once you contact a real estate agent you will want to know right off the bat if it's someone you can trust. And if you have an idea before hand of how much property should be worth in that region no one will be able to pull the wool over your eyes.

Now if you have made it this far it's time to contact a real estate agent and set up appointments to view properties. You may want to book a trip into town for a few weeks or more and have a long list of homes to view. Remember, you might be vacationing there for the rest of your life!

Always keep in mind your wish list. This list is something you should give your real estate agent and let them know which items you are willing to comprise on.

You may also want to low ball your budget - there are always unexpected fees and taxes along the way and they can quickly add up. You should be sure to consult with your real estate agent as there maybe specific costs in specific countries. And if you need financing or a loan you might want to investigate if you are approved for the type of cash you will need to buy a home abroad; your wouldn't want to show up at the negotiating table empty handed!

As well a currency transfer can also save you a barrel of cash as you may lose money on fluctuating exchange rates when it comes time to pay for your holiday home.

Well whether you end up in the Mountain High Rockies of British Columbia or in a small beach house seaside in Taormina, Sicily - I wish you the best of luck in your search for your little slice of paradise and hope that I helped you along your journey. Perhaps a vacation home search at www.HolidayHomes.ca may help you down your path.
