Butterfly Kisses - 1

Katarina met the love of her life. They were not together long but he intrigued her to the point where she could not think. But he vanished - out of sight, therefore out of mind. Will the butterfly, as she's been called, be able to figure out what had happened... or simply move on? - Prologue.
"It really is a nice day, isn't it," I decided, lying against the red quilt.

"Sure," Gavin agreed. I smiled, and closed my eyes. I could feel the sun shining against my long hair as I touched the tips of the grass.

"It's supposed to rain later," he said. "We could catch a movie or something."
"Can't. I have to study."
"But I hardly ever see you -"
"I have to study."
Gavin sighed.

"I'm sorry," I pulled myself back up and looked into his shining blue eyes. His russet hair fell about his head as he looked at me, upset. "I have a test on Friday. It's worth three hundred points."

"Well, so do I. I won't be studying tonight," Gavin persuaded. He took my hand. "Come on, Katarina. Please. We've been dating for months and so far we've not been to a movie."

I laughed, and observed the clouds. Months? Nine weeks. "Alright, fine. But if you pay."
"Alright." He said this casually, but when he went to open the picnic basket I saw him grinning. Gavin. He was so sweet.
"Are you hungry at all?"
"No, not really. Just pass me my water."
He passed me my bottle. I opened it and had some.
"I'm hungry," Gavin told himself, and then proceeded to eat everything in the basket except for one container of fruit he left for me. I'm a health fanatic when it comes to eating. I couldn't care less about exercising.

We made small talk.Gavin didn't know it but I was captivated in the moment. The flat land, the cool grass, the whispering trees, the sweet calls of the sparrows, his husky, happy voice was nice. The first time I had met him was through my best friend McKenna's roommate, Mamie.

Her roommate was hilarious, and we were all sitting among pillows and sharing a huge bag of potato chips, erupting into fits of laughter at her stories. There had been a knock out the door and he came in. Gavin was Mamie's older brother and immediately started to yell at her for stealing his cell phone when his eyes saw me and McKenna and he slunk out.

For the next two weeks he asked me out, but I firmly said no, I had no interest in him. And, as my mom had described me, I was a "butterfly" person, flitting in and out of moods and personalities and people's lives.

I opened up my fruit and excavated an apple slice.
"Do you think it's awkward," I started, after I had swallowed, "for -"
"For Mamie?" he asked. "No. She's had plenty of her friends date me."
"That's bragging."
"Is not. It's the truth."
"Is too. It's still bragging."
"Whatever."

Gavin wrapped his arms around me and kissed the top of my head.
"You were the one girl I got to pick, Katarina." I smiled.
"And you," I replied. "Gavin, you were the one guy that really stole my heart."
Gavin laughed at me. I laughed at him. We kissed.

Mm, I wish I could go back to that moment.
Gavin is gone.
We drifted apart.
I don't even know where he lives.

Gavin and Mamie had a lot of issues with their father. That could be why they up and vanished one day.
We had all lost touch weeks ago.
Would I ever see him again?

My heart said no. My mind said no.

But that was fine.
I was a butterfly.
No matter how much I had loved him I could find someone else.

Heya, it's me, Aubriella. I stopped writing Rose Petals as I felt it was too predictable. Rosalie and Sean were going to end up together anyway. I mean, come on. If you had a best friend next door that loved you and cared about you and wanted to marry you, would you reject him for a minor character like Tucker? If you'd like me to keep writing Rose Petals because you just like cute love stories, I will, tell me.

Do comment, thanks for reading!
So, what do you think?
It's amazing!
It's pretty good.
Meh!
