Whether you are going to meet a client to get business for your company or going for an interview, the way you dress up and look, is the first thing people notice and on the basis of that, form opinions about you. So, it makes dressing up in appropriate professional attire very important for any person. Even if the organization a person works for does not have a specific dress code, still he should dress in a way that gives out the impression that the person is smart, in-control and means business. Well-tailored business suits convey exactly this. They make a man or a woman look classy, sophisticated and professional. That's why business suits are a must in any man or woman's wardrobe.

Suits for Business Women

When it comes to business attire for women, there are two options. Either women can opt for a business suit with a skirt or they can opt for one with pants. Both the skirt and the pant is worn with a formal shirt and a matching jacket.

Today, most women prefer pants over skirts as they are more comfortable and easy to work in. There are many styles in pants that a woman can choose from such as a boot-cut, flared, and a wide-leg. For women who prefer a feminine look, pants which come in skinny slacks pattern will be the ideal choice. Women who are slightly on the heavier side should go in for the flat front pants, while women who are short should choose the wide leg pattern.

Women who prefer skirts over pants, should see to it that the length of the skirt is not too short. Ideally, the skirt should be not more than two inches above the knee. Also, skirts should not be too tight either as it can make handling work difficult. Tight skirts usually come with a slit at the back, near the seam to make the wearer comfortable.

Business Suits for Men

Business attire for men comprises a jacket worn with a shirt and pant. Jackets for men come in two styles i.e. single breasted and double-breasted. Double breasted jackets add bulk to the frame and hence are the most sought after by men who have narrow shoulders and are thin. The single breasted jacket either comes with two buttons or with three/four buttons. Men opt for any of the two according to their preference and choice.

The pants come in two styles i.e. with pleats and without pleats. Pants with pleats are much more comfortable as they leave enough room for movement. Flat front pants may not be as comfortable as them but they make a person appear slimmer than he actually is. The pants should sit on the waist and should end just above the shoes. If the socks are visible when a man walks, it means the length of the suit is not right for him and it needs to be altered.

How to Buy a Business Suit

Before buying a business suit there are many things that one needs to pay attention to, such as fabric, color, pattern, style and fit. The fabric should be wrinkle-free, the pattern should line up at the lapel seams as well as at the shoulder and the style should be in accordance with one's body type and the latest fashion trends. The most popular colors are charcoal, gray, navy blue, beige and black, so any color out of these can be opted for.

If you want to know how to buy a suit that fits perfectly, then here's a useful tip - Button your jacket and sit on a chair, if it feels tight or uncomfortable in any way, it means that the jacket is not fitting you properly. The same thing can be applied when buying business suits for women, especially if they are going in for a skirt. They should sit and see that the length of the skirt and fit of the jacket is proper before actually buying. Make sure that the jacket fits on to the shoulders appropriately and that the shoulders are padded lightly to lend a proper shape.

These formal suits should only be worn at office events which specifically say "formal attire" or "business attire," or "Western business attire." They should be worn during board meetings, negotiations with clients and when representing your organization in front of an outside party. Business suits convey the message that the wearer is an out-and-out professional and competent enough to handle things. So, just by wearing them half your battle is won.
