An ISO file is simply a virtual image of a CD or a DVD, and to use it one needs to know how to burn ISO to a DVD or a CD. You have to obtain a burning ISO software that enables you to undertake this task, and there are plenty of such applications available across the Internet for free. All of these applications will allow you to burn an image to a disc and then you will be able to use this disc like any other ordinary one.

The ISO image files contain the complete file structure within them, and the user is expected to extract this file structure from the ISO image file. Before you go ahead, you need to extract all the data from the ISO image and a program known as Winrar carries out this task. This can also easily be downloaded off the Internet for free.

Burning an ISO to a DVD or a CD
The task is a very simple one and it does not take more than 15 minutes to do so. All you have to do is download an application that is capable of carrying out this task, procure a blank DVD or CD and you are good to go. 'ImgBurn' and 'ISO Recorder' are just two of these applications that you can use. There are many more free software downloads that will perform the same task just as well. These work with pretty much every Operating System and require no other add-ons or installations.

Once you insert the blank CD or DVD into the computer you must proceed to open the ISO image burning software application. Now you must locate the 'Copy CD/DVD' option which is usually placed somewhere on the Tool Bar of the program. Once you have done this you must click on the 'Action' menu and then click on the 'Burn an image file' option.

You will now see a window open up that will require you to search for the ISO image that you wish to burn. Locate the file on your computer and then click on 'Open'. Now you will be asked to confirm if this is the ISO file that you wish to burn after all, and then you must select 'OK'. As soon as this is done the burning process will begin and it will take a few minutes to complete. The rate at which the ISO image is burned will depend on the size of the ISO image and also on the speed of your computer. Once the process has been completed the CD or DVD will automatically eject from the tray and you can now use this disc as any other normal one.

If you're wondering how to burn ISO to USB drive or any other external device then this is not possible. You must first burn it to a disc and then simply copy and paste the contents from the disc to the external device separately.

You must also remember that an ISO file is useless in itself unless, it is either extracted or burned to a disc. Only after carrying out either of these options will you be able to view the contents within an ISO image. It also goes without saying that you need a CD/DVD burner on your computer.

Once the burning process is complete you must always verify the contents on the disc to check if they have been burned successfully. Sometimes an important file may have got left out accidentally, though this is a rare occurrence. Always check the final disc after you burn the image to a disc or data transferred from it to any other external device for accuracy.
