This issue come into the picture when you record your own videos through a digital camera or a camcorder. When the files are saved on the computer they are in the AVI format. This is goo enough, if you want to view the files on the computer itself, but if you wish to see these files on a DVD player then you need to convert them. There are plenty of free software downloads over the Internet that will enable you to burn any AVI format videos to a DVD.

Available Freeware
There are plenty of such software applications that you will come across over the Internet, but be warned that none of them are perfect. So, it is advisable to procure a few of them just in case one does not work. The best software applications though, are the ones that you can purchase. Since you are paying for them they will be of a higher quality and they will almost always work. Finding the right software for yourself is something you will learn over time.

The open source nature of the Internet today has made it very simple for one to procure such applications though. This is the best way to go, as it is free. And, if you do end up with a faulty one that does not work, simply download another one.

The Burning Process
The very first thing that you need to do is download an application and then install it on your computer. The most widely used application for this purpose is known as 'DVD Flick' and this handles pretty much everything for you. The program enables that your video files are encoded to the MPEG-2 format which is necessary for a DVD player to play these files.

Once the program has been installed you will need to change the project settings to suit your purposes and this is very simple as the interface of the software will guide and instruct you through this entire task. Most of the default settings are fine but there is no harm in checking them once. There is also an option for you to make an ISO image of the files you are burning, so that you can burn them on to a DVD later.

Now, all you have to do is add the AVI files that you want burned to this program and this is as simple as it gets. You can either locate the files on your computer and add them or you can even drag and drop the files that you want to burn. There will also be an indicator that will show you how much space is left on your DVD and this will tell you when to stop adding AVI files. It is assumed that you have already placed a blank DVD in your drive by this point.

Now you can go ahead and start the burning process and this will take a couple of minutes to complete. Once this is done you can remove your DVD and it will be ready to play in any standard DVD player. The process is as simple as that and requires no complex programs or installations and it can be completed in a matter of minutes.

In truth, this is a very elementary task that anyone familiar with computers will be able to carry out with relative ease. All your video files can now be viewed through a DVD player as well.
