Building a Successful Career
A successful career is built over a certain period of time. You do not just wake up one day and find yourself successful in your career.
Building a successful career involves some steps:
- Self Assessment
Every careers success in life comes with self-assessment. You need to assess yourself in order to know what you want in life. Know yourself. Take time out to know what makes you happy. Take time out to do a survey of what you like and what you don’t like. Know your ability. Know your limitations. Be true to yourself. What can you do? Your career in life depends on what you can do and the skills you have. Do you really want to take the career? The issue of lack of employment forces people to apply just for anything. I had fallen into this also before I realize that I can’t do everything as a career. Today, you apply for a bank industry, tomorrow, you apply for a oil industry and the next day, you apply for a telecommunication industry…Ask yourself which of these can I stay through to. From your honest answer, you know what you want. - Research
Get to know the do’s and don’ts of the career you intend to do. Research involves you getting to know more from people who have gone ahead of you successfully in that career. Get to know about the career. People makes career, career don’t make people. Ask questions. Learn more about it. Buy books that relate to the career and read them. Get online and research about the career. Someone once asked me if I can work as a marketer, I said yes. This is because I have assessed myself and I desire to add marketing skills to the ones I have. Even though I have not marketed anything before…I am learning the skills under those who knows what it takes to be.
Research involves learning under someone or a body. It involves getting knowledge through service. Know what those who have gone ahead of you knows that still keeps them in the careers. This is called have the insider’s perspective. Research doesn’t get fulfilled without you paying for it in time and money. - Decision Making
Make a good decision for yourself as par the career. Sit down and stop running from pillar to post trying to meet up with the deadline for the submission of your CV for that application. Think. Make critical decision to your success. Decide if you can stay through your career when things start to go wrong. God will not choose a career for you. You need to make the decision for yourself. He has given you brain so that you can give him rest. There are multitudes in the valley of decision. Make a decision that will translate you from that valley to the top of the mountain. - Search
After you have made a quality decision, it’s now time to search for what to do. Do a qualitative search for the career you’ve decided to do. Search the newspapers. Search the internet for both local and international opportunities in that field of career. Ask people… Network with people etc. - Acceptance
This is the final process in your first step in building a successful career. Accept the requirements of the career. Meet up with it. Submit that application. Attend that interview. Get going in the career you have assessed, researched, decided, searched and accepted.
See you at the best of your career…
