Building a Basketball Court - How to Build a Basketball Court
Recently I met one of my cousins who is extremely fond of basketball. Unfortunately, he was in a fix. He wanted to play basketball on a regular basis by joining a club or something. But then, with his job and other engagements, he was not able to fulfill his desire of playing basketball. So I suggested him that why don't we build one in our courtyard. So he got very excited and we got down to hunting on the net on how to build a basketball court. We found out some really interesting facts and easy tips on building a basketball court. We thought we would share it with glee with other basket ball lovers. So here it goes...

Steps to Build a Basketball Court
Before you get down to digging and installing poles, get a hold of the checklist of the things you would need for building a basketball court and that is fast setting concrete, all purpose gravel, plumb, post hole digger, backboard pole and basketball backboard, rim and net.

Basket 1: So the first thing you do is to take measurements. Decide upon the basketball court size. Then you will have to buy the requisite material for a basketball courts as mentioned above.

Basket 2 : After you get all the required material, which will be a bit hard to get, you will need to check the surface where you are going to build the court. The surface should ideally be level and smooth. This will ensure that any accidents because of the irregular level of the surface are avoided.

Basket 3: Dig a hole which has a width, roughly around 3 times the diameter of the pole and it has a depth, roughly around one third of the pole's diameter. The hole has to be deep enough to accommodate 15 inches of the pole underground.

Basket 4: Follow the digging by filling the hole with 6 to 8 inches of gravel, to prevent any drainage problems. Then fix the pole into the hole, affirming that the hole is level and plumb.

Basket 5: After you are done with the filing of the hole with gravel, pour dry, concrete mix in it to fill the hole 3 to 4 inches from top. Inspect the hole to see if it is still level and plumb.

Basket 6: See the instructions on the concrete purchased. Now seal the hole with water and the dirt dug up from the hole.

There you are done with building your basketball court in your courtyard. But if you don't have a courtyard, then how would you play basketball? No worries, we have a solution for that as well. A driveway basketball court. Sounds fun, isn't it? Here's how you can build one.

Driveway Basketball Court
Measure your driveway for starters. See if it can fit a half or a full basketball court, because the dimensions and layout of your driveway can affect your basketball court. Then get a basketball hoop and install it in the requisite place. Most probably, you wouldn't be able to fit in the full court. After that, determine the measurements for your basketball court. That could range anything between a high school basketball court measurement to the dimensions of a professional basketball court. Once done with all this, mark the lines of the court using chalk and tape. It will be better, if you do this before you put on the finishing touches with a spray paint. The markings should be at least 1 inch thick, so that they are prominent enough. Use a paint contrasting the background and fundamental hues of the court.

See, wasn't it easy? Driveway court is definitely easier than a courtyard basketball court. But then a basketball court in a courtyard is such a tempting idea than having it somewhere outside.

Which ever type of court it is, finally, you have to satiate your desire of playing basketball, which both the types of courts have the capability to fulfill. Have a great time playing basketball!
