Broken Home - Chapter Two
Kassii finally meets Jake, and realizes she feels different whens he is around him. Is this a crush, or just lust?
I ran down the steps and into the foyer. Before going out the door, I stopped to look into the mirror hanging beside the coat rack. My hair was a little messy, but it still looked good. My make up wasn't perfect, but it still looked good too. I looked down at my clothes. A pair of neon green short shorts and a white wife beater, with black ugg boots. Not exactly what I wanted to wear to go see that gorgeous guy outside, but Josh would notice if I changed just to come out here. Sighing and running my fingers through my hair, I turned back toward the door, opened it and stepped outside.
I realized as I was walking to the sidewalk where my brother Josh and that guy was standing that I hadn't thought of a genuine reason to come outside while they were here. And Josh is no idiot. I looked around, trying to look casual as I really searched for a reason to come outside. I saw the mailbox to the left of them, maybe ten feet. Perfect, I thought grinning. I quickly quit grinning though when I realized I probably looked like an idiot smiling for no reason. I walked down the cobblestone walkway leading from our house to the sidewalk. Our yard, not very large but pretty, held a few flowerbeds blooming with every flower I could think of, there was a birdbath to the left, but the freshly trimmed hedges. Our yard was fenced in, with hedges surrounding the fence to give more privacy. Some people might think that sounds so richie and great, I think it just looks pointless. I got to the fence gate and opened it, making sure not to look at Josh and his friend. Closing it behind me, I walked over to the mailbox. Opening it, I looked inside and sighed, no mail.
"What are you doing?" Josh asked me in a voice that sounded like I was too stupid for him to talk normal to. I turned toward him, giving him the expression that I thought he was the biggest idiot.
"Obviously, I'm checking the mail, what's it matter to you?" I asked him annoyed. He always has to start something. He started laughing.
"Well nothing really, except the fact that its really funny to see you make yourself look like the biggest bimbo I've ever seen." Josh laughed. His friend wasn't laughing, just looking at me. I didn't know if that was a good sign or not. Not that I want to be interested in him, I'm not looking for a boyfriend, but I was curious about him.
"And how is that Josh? Please tell me." I asked him. He looked at me and nodded.
"Well...it's Sunday Kassii, and the mail doesn't run on Sundays." He told me. I felt like an idiot. Sighing, I rolled my eyes. The one time he had to be right.
"Oh, guess I didn't pay attention to the day. I usually don't. My bad. Well I'm going back in then. Later." I said to them, walking to the gate. The boy stopped me.
"Aye, so your Josh's sister?" he asked. His voice was like honey. I felt my body tingle as I soaked in his voice. Instantly I wanted to hear more. I blinked, holding my eyes closed for a second longar then usual. I came back down to earth realizing he was waiting for me to speak. I half turned back around to look at him. He skin was tanned, a beautiful glowing brown. His eyes were green, so bright I wondered if they were contacts for a minute. His hair was light brown with natural blonde highlights, shaggy flipping out near his ears. His lips were sexy, full, and I wanted to put my lips on his. He was well built. Muscular, healthy, athletic looking. He was amazing. I sighed, and looked at him hazily.
"Yeah I'm his younger sister Kassii, its nice to meet you. Are you a new friend of Josh's?" I asked him, hoping he would say yes. He smiled at me, showing perfect straight white teeth.
"Nice to meet you too Kassii, I'm Jake Sounders. I live down the road, at the very end of the dead end. And yes, I'm a new friend of Josh's." He said smiling at me. I still felt warm. I shook my head a little.
"Well it was really nice meeting you. Don't worry, Josh isn't always an ass like he probably looks like to you right now, you'll like him better when you get to know him." I told him giggling. Josh glanced up at me grinning. Josh smiled at me. He hates me when were in the house, but not when were out together. I think it's probably because when were around our family, he knows that a lot of the fighting is my fault, and so he dislikes me for it. For bringing his family down. But when we go out together, or were not around mom and dad, the fighting doesn't come to his head, therefore he doesn't hate me.
"Do you want to go to the park with us? There's this park Jake was just telling me about, and we figured we'd go shoot some hoops, you can come with us and play if you want." Josh told me. He always forgets things. I looked at him for a second.
"I would, but I can't. I'll see you guys later." I said softly. I turned around again, waving bye, and walked back up the cobblestone walkway. I went to the door and shut it. Pressing my back against the door, I rubbed my temples. That was awkward. Even though I had no intention of liking Jake, or wanting to be with him. I didn't want him to know about me and my past. Or the fact that I'm on house arrest. I wasn't sure why I cared what he thought.
To let you know the gist of me. I'm on house arrest because I got into a fight with three girls at our old school back in Memphis. Don't get me wrong, I won. But winning is basically what got me into trouble. Two of the girls went to the hospital. The police were a little more the upset, since one of the girls was the chiefs daughter. I know, my luck right? And so they gave my parents an option. Send me to juvi till I'm 18, with no family contact or visits, or move again. So we moved. I used to be the biggest trouble maker. I would lie, steal, sneak out, cuss at my parents. That's what started them fighting, they both blamed each other for my behavior. But then I got wiser, and I stopped. I was a great kid. But the fighting continued. It's not always about me or Josh anymore, but I know I'm the one who started them in the first place. So now you know my background. The gist of it anyway.
I walked upstairs to my room. I turned on the radio. I was by myself and bored. Alone. Great. I blared the radio louder. All the way turnt up by souja boy was on, my favorite song as of now. I opened my window and looked down. Resting my arms on the window seal, I leaned down and looked around. The sun was shining bright, trees blowing in the soft wind. And I couldn't even go out of my yard to enjoy it. I wish I could have gone to the park with Jake and Josh. Especially Jake. I sighed, why was I thinking like that? It was getting annoying. I glanced down at the street and jumped. Jake was still standing on the sidewalk by himself. I looked around for Josh when I heard a knock on my door. I opened it and there stood Josh.
"Gah, turn down the radio man, I've been yelling for you forever. Mom just called me and told me to tell you she'll be late for dinner tonight because shes getting held up at work, so we can make whatever we want. I'll be back around eight, so I'll see you later alright? Keep your phone on." He told me. I nodded at him and shut the door. I went back to the window Leaning again, I watched Josh walk out to the sidewalk, and Jake wait for him. Suddenly, Jake looked up at my window. I felt like I had been caught, although I was doing nothing wrong. Jake smiled and waved at me. Smiling wide, I waved back as the started to walk away. Good thing he was leaving. I wouldn't want him to see how red my face had gotten. Or how warm I was on the inside thinking of him. I closed my eyes.
What was up with me about him?
