Britney Spears Files for Divorce

Spears filed a petition in Los Angeles Superior Court on Tuesday and a spokesperson for the court said, "Yes, it’s confirmed. It was filed today on the grounds of irreconcilable differences." Spears reportedly stated a separation date of Monday. She popped in unannounced on The Late Show with David Letterman Monday showing off a trim post-baby figure, but never mentioned the filing. Spears has hired Laura Wasser, a top celebrity divorce attorney who has handle divorces for a number of high profile celebrities.

According to court papers, Spears reportedly asked for legal and physical custody of the couple’s children with visitation rights for Federline. The couple has two young son’s – Sean Preston, 1, and Jayden James, 2 months. It was reported that Spears and Federline have an "iron-clad" pre-nup and that the pop tart has waived the right to spousal support and is allegedly asking that the judge rule that each party must pay their own attorney fees. The couple reportedly tied the knot in September 2004, but it was reported that she listed a marriage date of October 6, 2004 in her divorce papers. The couple has been battling rumors of a bad marriage ever since. Federline has been blamed for Spears downfall from pretty pop star to hillbilly. In June, she appeared on Dateline tearfully defending her marriage and her motherhood skills. On Friday at his record release party Federline slammed rumors of marital unrest stating, "I don’t waste any energy thinking about these things. I don’t get caught up in it." Wonder how well he will fair as the ex-Mr. Britney Spears.
