Spears, 25, arrived at the Van Nuys police station Monday night at approximately 9:30 p.m. with attorney Michael Flanagan and her newest BFF producer Sam Lufti by her side. LAPD officer Mike Lopez said Monday, "At 9:25 p.m. this evening, Ms. Spears turned herself in to the Van Nuys Jail for booking. This was by court order, which is common for a misdemeanor charge." Spears was reportedly not handcuffed or placed in a holding cell during her 45-minutes at the jail. She was fingerprinted and photographed, but it is reportedly the policy of the LAPD not to release the booking photos.
Spears was ordered on October 9 by Los Angeles Superior Court Commissioner Rebecca Omens to be booked on hit-and-run causing property damage and driving without a valid license. The charges stem from an accident in a Studio City parking lot on August 6. Spears was spotted and photographed hitting a parked car as she turned into a parking space. The Toxic singer reportedly got out of her car and checked out the damages to both cars before gett8ing back in her car and taking off without so much as leaving a note.
The owner of the car filed a police report a few days after the fender-bender. Spears was set to be arraigned on the charges on October 10, but Flanagan requested a postponement to try to settle out of court with the car's owner. Flanagan reportedly said, "We're working toward a resolution of the case, but we don't have a firm deal yet." If Spears is found guilty of the charges she faces a year in jail (a maximum six-months per offense) and a $1,000 fine.
