Britney Jury Deadlocked on Traffic Case

Britney Spears’ traffic court case is the most recent in a series of high-profile incidents involving the pop singer, though this one is probably a bit easier to deal with than the difficult problems the young star has faced over the past two years.
In what is most likely the most important court case since Roe v. Wade, the jury chosen to decide on the Britney Spears case was split 10-2 on Monday. Spears had been charged with a misdemeanor offense for allegedly driving without a valid California driver’s license. The charge was leveled after a minor accident in which Spears was involved last year. The charge itself carries a maximum sentence of 6 months in jail and a $1,000 fine. After the jury split, the judge in the case sent them back for further deliberations. America waits anxiously as the historic and ground-breaking case takes precedence in the American consciousness over the financial crisis the upcoming presidential election.

Spears defense included calling in her father, who testified that although his daughter moved to California, has been married and divorced in the state and had her children there, she still considers Louisiana home, and that she had a valid Louisiana driver’s license at the time of the accident. Spears, regardless of the outcome of this particular case, has been making a comeback of sorts lately, showing up in public with a sleek physique more in tune with her earlier days after falling on hard times following her divorce and a series of high-profile mishaps and snafus.

Among the problems facing Britney over the past several years were ex-husband Kevin Federline’s filing for primary physical custody of their sons, alleged drug problems, a less-than-stellar performance at the 2007 MTV Video Music Awards, and being hospitalized for a mental evaluation. Then, finally, and with the help of family and friends, Brit made a slow comeback culminating most recently with a successful return to the MTV Video Music Awards, where she won Video of the Year, Best Female Video and Best Pop Video, all for the song/video "Piece of Me."
