Bride and Groom Wedding Speech - The Bride Rule, OK!

Traditionally grooms speeches are made on behalf of both the bride and groom, but these days it is becoming more and more common for the bride to opt for making her own speech. Whichever option you choose should depend on personal preference. However some thought needs to given as to who out of the bride and groom should thank who, otherwise some people could be thanked twice while others not thanked at all.
Traditionally grooms speeches are made on behalf of both the bride and groom. The groom starts his speech with 'My Wife and I', and usually gets a small chuckle. These days it is becoming more and more common for the bride to opt for making her own speech.

Whichever option you choose should depend on personal preference. Some brides would rather not put themselves through any additional stress on their big day, mind you some grooms I'm sure would also like the option not to make a speech, if they could get away with not having to!

If it is decided that the groom is to make a speech on behalf of the couple, then he should give thanks on behalf of both of them to all those involved in helping with the wedding preparations. He should continue by thanking all those who have attended or who have sent their best wishes, and show gratitude for the gifts received.

If the bride and groom decide to make separate speeches then some thought has to be given as to which one of them should thank who. It would be unfair to give thanks to some people twice while at the same time missing out others. Not only is this embarrassing to the bride and groom, but it can very upsetting for the people left out.

The one exception to this is that the bride and groom should each thank both sets of parents. Don't forget that this may well be a life changing day for your parents, especially if you currently live at home and will now be moving out, and every effort should be made to make them feel special.

An obvious decision as to who should thank who would be for the groom to thank the best man and any page boys, and for the bride to thank the maid of honor and any bridesmaids. It then needs to be decided as to who thanks the person who conducted the service, the caterers, the florists etc, etc.

Whether the groom makes one speech on behalf of the couple, or the bride makes her own speech, each speech needs to be functional while at the same time sounding sincere. With such a lot of people to thank there is a real danger of the speech sounding like the reading of a shopping list.

A little humor can go a long way to break up the monotony of the obligatory thank you's, however it is a very difficult balancing act to achieve. This is why grooms speeches are generally considered to be one of the most difficult of all the wedding speeches to write and present.

Writing grooms speeches can seem like an impossible task, and it is not uncommon for the groom to be faced with a blank piece of paper or computer screen for quite a while waiting for inspiration to finally come along.

After a while of coming up with nothing it eventually dawns on the groom that the ideas for the speech are not going to come from within, and so begins the process of trawling the internet for ideas. It soon becomes obvious, however, that the internet is only able to offer up inferior and poorly written content, and the old adage that 'you gets what you pay for' suddenly rings true.

A much better option is to invest in a book written by a professional speech writer. The better ones out there will contain many examples of grooms speeches and toasts that can be mixed and matched at will. They can then be made truly unique by customizing them to your personal circumstances.

Lets face it, your wedding day is the biggest day of your life, and your speech will be the biggest speech of your life. It's really not worth spoiling the whole day and showing yourself up just because you cut corners on your wedding speech.
