An orphan girl lives with some kids in a house that is run by a drunk abusive man who makes them work for his own pleasure. But when the next door house is occupied by a boy and a lovely mother... what's gonna happen to the thing they call family??

-Ava's POV-

I heard him shouting from downstairs, "Ava get your butt down here, you have to work and make me money." I groaned and got off the bed, realizing there was no school today. I wore some jeans and a tank top, then I combed my black hair into a pony tail, put on some eyeliner on my green eyes. Took my backpack and rushed downstairs to see him standing in the end of the staircase waiting for me.

"You are late, now get to your seat on the table and eat with the others." He ordered. I got down and beside my friend Jesse who has been my friend since I got here and that will be about 2 years from now.

My name is Ava Black and I am 16 years old (17 next month). I know that you are wondering who that man is. Well his name is Jake Johnson and he runs a house which 'we kids' call home. He makes us work in the weekends and after school so we can provide him money, so he can raise us, "which is a lie, he takes the money and spend it on alcohol and drugs," but he does send us to school after all, but who doesn't bring at least 20 dollars to the house each day he gets punished badly.

All the kids who lived here are orphans, so I am an orphan too. My parents died in a car crash 2 years ago and they said to me before they died that if something happens to them, go to Jake Johnson. I guess they didn't know he was a bad person.

And well here I am. In the house live 7 people. Me-the oldest-16, Freddy who is 15, Jesse who is also 15 and her brother Aaron who is 14, Kristen who is 13, Benny 12 and at last Lisa-the youngest-who is 5.

I sat beside Jesse and pretended to eat because I wasn't so hungry. When we finished eating Jesse and Freddy began washing the dishes and me and Aaron cleaning the table while the others went to their works.

Freddy worked in an ice cream shop with Jesse. Aaron and Benny delivered pizzas to houses and Kristen sold flowers. As for me I go to a diner and work there. I take Lisa with me as if she is my sister and put her on some of the tables and give her some colored pencils and papers so she can draw pictures. I always have to bring double (me and Lisa) so here we go.

When we finished I wandered off to the diner with Lisa in my hand I got in and went to the counter and put on my apron took Lisa to Kate (the owner) and started to take orders.

-Chris's POV-

I woke up early today it was like 8:30 am. I took a quick shower, grabbed a pair of black pants and a black T-shirt and matching sneakers and went straight downstairs to see boxes packed in the living room. And my older brother Jimmy talking to a man outside beside him a big truck and men putting our furniture in it and I said to myself, "What the hell is going on here?" I saw mom in the kitchen who was still packing. I rushed to her and kissed her on the cheek.

"Good morning Ma, so what's going on?" I asked knowing what the answer will be.

"Oh good morning darling." She said kissing me on the cheek and handing me a cup of milk that was poured down and set at the table I grabbed it and took a sip waiting for ma's reply.

"Honey we are moving permanently now, but it is not too far from here but the bad news is that you're moving into a closer school." She said, a bit sad.

"I had the perfect job as a teacher in one of the kid's school here and it pays for a house, so I bought the house yesterday and I promise it will be permanent this time."

"Moving? Again? Mom please not again, I have to do all the packing and stuff uurrghh and for the school thing don't be sad for me to leave it." I said a little angry but happy for mom, "As if I had any friends there." I said quoting the word "friends."

We had been moving ever since my dad died and it was about 3 years ago. It was so hard for me, Jimmy and mom to handle it so we tried to leave the town we used to live in because everything there reminded us of dad, it was so painful.

When we got to our new house we started unpacking slowly. I decided to get lunch for us because mom couldn't cook while we were unpacking. So when I got out the house I wandered in the town, to look for some diner who is empty and can get my stuff fast. I spotted one when I was walking. It looked crowded but not too crowded so I entered and went to a table far in the back.

A girl similar to my age came to me to take my order. The girl was, "OH MY GOD," she was so hot. Black hair, green eyes, slim body with the perfect curves, she was indescribable.

"Hello! So what are you gonna order?" She asked innocently.

-Ava's POV-

I was about to leave when a cute guy entered the diner, so I decided I could take a last order.

As I reached his table I noticed how beautiful he was. He had black hair (just like mine) thin body (just like mine) but he had greenish grayish eyes (which is definitely not like mine).

I came to him and said, "Hello! So what are you gonna order?"

"Hey, can I have a takeaway please." He said with a deep voice with a small smile on his face which made my cheeks turn red.

"Sure you can, have you decided yet?" I said smiling slightly.

"I will take chicken wings and a hamburger, please." He said staring at the menu in his hands.

"Sure and that will be 18 dollars for you." I said smiling a big one now.

He gave me 20 dollars and said, "Keep the rest it is for that beautiful blush creeping on your face." I blushed again and he started grinning like mad.

I went to Sam (the chef) and gave him the order, said goodbye and went straight to the house. I was a few houses far when I saw a truck outside our next door house. I guessed that they were new family moving in. But that wasn't good for us because the 2nd floor's bedroom in the next house can see the entire house, including the dining room where Jack counts the money. Ugghhh Dramaaa...

I always bring home 40, but today I brought 45 dollars home (for me and Lisa). I put 5 dollars in my pocket and entered the house. Jack wasn't home yet, so I went to my room put the money in a small bag and came downstairs.

"Guys... Did everyone collect all the money." I shouted into the house. 6 yeses came after that and I smiled.

Then Jack entered swaying left and right, obviously drunk!!

"Ava put me some food and bring me my money." He slurred.
