Hair Braids for Kids

Cornrows: These are designed in various styles and can be quite trendy. Cornrows could run from front of the head to the back, side or top with braided ends hanging loose with curls or perhaps just straight. The number can range form hardly 2 to 30, considering the fullness and length of the hair. Now cornrows are of 3 types-

Natural Cornrows: As the name suggests, these are done without using artificial hair extensions. They are done only with natural hair. It's a hit amongst both boys and girls. For this, the natural length of hair has to be atleast 2 inches for braids.

Regular Cornrows: Regular Cornrows use hair extensions. The added hair could be either synthetic or human. Now in this hairstyle, the hair extensions are added only once at the start of the braiding process. Here, you may have a small knot on the spot, where the braiding starts. But there are some who do not prefer this knot, which leads to no-knot cornrow.

No-Knot Cornrow: These are also done using hair extensions, but the method is a bit different. Here, the hair is added step by step while you are braiding downwards, coming to the end of the braids. The best part about this style is that there are no lump where the braids begin. This hairstyle looks more natural and there is no impression that extensions have been used.

Single Braids: Single braids are free flowing individual braids. The size can differ anything between 2 mm to 5 mm. The length can be to the chins, back or the shoulder. Akin to the cornrows, the ends could be wavy, curly or straight. This is a convenient option when it comes to braids for kids.

Single Twists: Single twists are again characterized into 3 types-

Natural Twists: This hairstyle is done with your natural hair combed and twisted, individually. For this, the hair has to be atleast 1 inch, so that it gets twisted.

Senegalese Twists: This is a good option, when it comes to black braids for kids. Senegalese twist braids are again done using synthetic hair. Similar to the cornrows, here also the ends can be straight, wavy or curly. They can be either burned or dipped in hot water, which is preferred by many.

Kinky twists: These are best for kinky hair. Kinky twists are done with precisely kinky kind of hair. The size ranges from 2 mm to 4mm and could be till the chin or the shoulders. The ends are normally curly and are dipped in hot water.

Most of these are micro braids, which are a craze amongst many youngsters and are fine choices with regards to braids for kids. However, too much of braiding can lead to straining of hair and the hair could grow in wrong direction. But, on the other hand, hair braiding is cool, if you have beautiful long locks. It can go even with ponytails and different styles are available in braiding.

Ultimately, what matters is how you carry a hairstyle and how convenient and comfortable it is. If the kids are loving it and it is helping the hair grow, well, braiding is the way to go!
