Boys Can Be a Problem - Chapter 2
They need a life!!
Haley waited outside like she said she would. I park and unlock the doors. She go in.
"So, what happened to that guy you met?" I asked.
"You mean Jake?" she said. "Well he disappeared into the crowd and then gone".
"So in other words, he ditch you", I said, driving.
"No", she said defensively. "I just lost him, that's all".
"He ditch you", I pointed out.
"Lost him", she argued back.
"Well did he come back or did you see him anywhere?" I ask.
"No", she said.
"Then that means he wasn't interested, right?" I said making sense.
She licked her lips. "Yes", she said half sighing and half hissing.
I click my tongue as a way of victory. I couldn't really slap, I'm driving. I park in front of her house. She sat there.
"Can I sleep over?" She asked suddenly.
"Yeah", I answered a bit too quickly.
I took off home. When I park the car, I told her to get out quietly. We shut the door, and then sneak into the house. Mom wasn't awake, thankfully. I made tea and then we sat at the table. We sip now and then.
"Are you sleepy?" I ask her.
She sighed. "No".
"Me either".
"I saw Jay at the party", she said, looking at me.
I nearly choke on my tea. I clear my throat. "Really? So did I."
"I saw him with a blonde girl on his lap", she said.
That sting a little. "I saw her, too".
"Great, now you can get over him", she said. "Because he certainly did".
"Thanks for the advice", I muttered dryly. "It's like I never thought of it".
"Aren't I great?" she said.
"In you're dreams, maybe?" I said.
She stuck out her tongue. "Dreams are better than reality".
"Yeah", I agreed with her. "They are".
That is so true. Last week, I dreamed of Jay but now, I don't. To me, that was like a sign that I was finally getting over him. The party made me doubt that.
We sat there.
I drank all my tea and then put it in the sink. Haley did the same.
"So," I started. "Maybe we should do something?"
"Like what?" she said.
"We could go somewhere?" I suggested.
"Somewhere like?"
I thought about it.
"I have no idea", I said. "It'll come to me".
"When, in a few years", she said.
"No, tomorrow", I said. "I'll know tomorrow".
"Sure you will", Haley said.
I made Haley sleep on the couch.
