Boy Wonder Rescued

Kelli does what she has to do and knocks Robin cold.
Robin fought his way out of the dark pit of unconsciousness. Yep, it was a 'where am 'I? 'How did I get here?' moment. Though he was only 15 he had two years of crime fighting alongside of Batman under his belt so it wasn't the first time he had experienced such a 'coming to'. He had won more fights than he could remember, that was for certain. But he had lost his share too. He had also been knocked out more times than he could count.

And this, apparently was one of those times.

Woozy, a slight ache on his chin, Robin tried to sit up. A hand, gently but firmly pushed him back down onto his back. "Don't try to get up. You took quite a sock on the jaw," a low, soft voice said to him.

Robin looked up to see a young, red-haired girl bending over him. She was pretty in a school girl sort of way. She was a school girl because she was wearing the red, white and yellow plaid skirt of Margaret Marys Girl's Academy. A white collared blouse and a striped tie that matched her skirt and red blazer finished the uniform. Robin never tried to guess people's ages but he did guess her to be no older than fifteen.

"I'm okay," Robin protested again trying to sit up. She again pushed him back down.

"Be still. There in the warehouse below. If they know you've come to.........." She didn't finish the sentence. Instead she jumped up, hurried over to a far railing and listened.

Coming back she again knelt down beside Robin. "I want to help you."

"But, it's a cliche but, where am I? How did I get here?"

"Catwoman knocked you out. Her thugs carried you here."

"Catwoman?" Robin rubbed the sore spot on his chin.

"You were jumped by her gang as you came to the jewelry store on main. I think it was a trap. You fought 'em pretty good. For a while, but one guy hit you and when you spun around from the punch Catwoman was waiting. You were half out at that point and the uppercut she landed on your chin knocked you completely out. You dropped like a rock. She had one of her gang carry you off unconscious. I was passing by the store and saw all this. They carried you down an alley to this old warehouse. I hid and followed."

Finally, Robin was able to sit up without being restrained. He rubbed his chin again. Cat woman," he said again not really surprised that it was she who had knocked him cold.

"You're not surprised? Me neither," the girl said. "Lot of guys don't think a girl can knock them out so when it happens......."

"Catwoman isn't just a lot of girls. She's knocked both Batman and I out before."

Robin got to his feet still groggy. Despite that, "Time for round two."

"No, no, no." The young girl grabbed his wrist. "You're in no condition to take them on. We need to.............."

Robin ignored her and staggered a few feet toward the staircase at the far end of the room. The girl attempted to pull him back but a determined Robin would have none of it.

The girl gave a hopeless shrug. "Okay. I guess I'll have to take matters into my own hands. Sorry."

"Sorry? For what?" Robin faced the girl.

"For this." Robin never even saw stars. The right cross she landed on his chin knocked him out before he hit the floor. Actually Robin's limp body never reached the floor with a thud. The girl managed to catch him and ease him soundlessly to the deck.

Again she knelt beside the unconscious Boy Wonder. "Men," she said with resignation. "So macho and so stubborn."
* * * * * *
This time when Robin came to he found himself lying on a couch. As the first time the young girl was looking down on him. "I had to knock your silly ass out. Darn you. It's a good thing I live close. I had to carry you over my shoulder all the way. You're not big, thank heavens, but you were heavy enough knocked out as you were."

"Just who are you?"

"Kelli. I'm a student at Margaret Mary's. Is you're jaw alright?"

Robin wiggled it with his hand. "I think I'm no worse for tear."

Kelli wrinkled her forehead in apology. "I tried to be as nice as possible. But I had to hit you hard enough to knock you out or you would have got us both in trouble. You know what? You knock out pretty easily. And," she added, "you stay out too. You've been dead to the world for over an hour."

"That," Robin said, "is not what a crime fighter wants to hear."

"I suppose not. Being easy to knock out isn't something you want to get around."

"Where did you learn to hit like that?"

Kelli smiled broadly. "I didn't know I could. It just came out of nowhere. To truth is I took a quick look around for some thing to conk you over the head with. I realized I had to knock you out to stop you but," she shrugged. "There was nothing handy so I socked you."

Kelli reached over and fingered the slight bruise on Robin's chin. "I'm kinda proud of myself. I mean knocking Boy Wonder out with one punch. You're the first guy I ever knocked out."

"I'm honored. But you'll forgive me if I don't go around telling every one."

"Darn. Oh well, I'll keep it a secret for your sake."
