Boston Terrier Potty Training Can Be Easy

Boston Terrier potty training should be the joint responsibility of the family. Involve everyone and it will be more fun and a lot easier, as it is a lengthy process. Plenty of praise and treats will help your puppy with its Boston Terrier potty training. The whole family needs to be involved to make this process go smoother.
Potty training any dog is difficult but Boston Terrier potty training can be especially hard. These little guys can be stubborn and you can expect your hard work to be undone and for your puppy to go backwards in its Boston Terrier training. The key here is to be patient and consistent, as these are the only things that will work. Think of Boston Terrier potty training as potty training children.

It may be easier to anticipate bowel and bladder movements if you approach Boston Terrier potty training the same way you would approach potty training a child. A puppy will need to go after eating, playing or napping. Use this as a rough guide as to when your puppy needs to be taken out or to the specific area meant for the dog’s bathroom. This is a rough guide and there will be times when you find your puppy has gone before you could take it outside.

After eating your puppy should be taken outside if this is where you want it to go. Repeat a command that you want it to associate with this action. You may feel silly having to repeat this over and over again but it is extremely important that you do this. When your puppy does go you need to very enthusiastically praise the puppy. Say yes or good boy as soon as your puppy has done its business.

Everyone in your family should be involved in Boston Terrier potty training and use the same commands so as not to confuse your puppy. Sometimes you will find that your puppy will not be interested in going after meal times even though you wait and wait. Bring your puppy inside and keep a close eye on it, don’t turn your back for even a minute because your puppy is sure to have an accident in that one minute. Wait five minutes and then take it outside again and repeat the process.

If you don’t want to use a crate then fence off or confine your puppy to an area of the house that is theirs. This area should be similar to the crate in that it has blankets and toys and is meant for the puppy to feel at home in. This approach is the same as the crate method in your Boston Terrier potty training. It is less confining and allows you to keep a better eye on your dog.

This area should not be isolated yet at the same time it should be an area of the house that is easy to clean up. You will need maybe a four or five months before you see consistent results. Before this you can expect smooth sailing in the Boston Terrier potty training to be interrupted by an accident. Don’t harshly punish your Boston for this, instead treat it as a minor setback and move on.

Wendy Caples has trained many Boston Terriers over the years and absolutely adores this breed. Boston Terrier training does not have to be hard as long as you are consistent and patient. This article condenses what you need to know from dog training books into an easy to read article.
