Boric Acid for Ants

In order to get rid of an ant infestation at home and yard, it is preferable to go for non-toxic ways and methods, for the purpose of doing so. Using boric acid, carpenter ants, sugar ants, red ants and any other types of these insects, can be taken care off, and without the risk of any side effects, which otherwise, remains a concern with insecticides.

Boric Acid Recipe to Kill Ants

Prepare a mix of jam and boric acid. Put this mix in a container and place them where you see the ants visiting frequently. You can also make a mix of boric acid with sugar and warm water, or simply make a solution of the acid and warm water and use it as a spray. Be sure to keep these ant killer recipes out of reach of children. In some cases, it may happen that the ants do not respond to these baits. If this happens, then probably you have to adjust the ratio of the ingredients. If too much of boric acid is added to the bait, then the insects might not eat it or may not carry it to their colony. Adding some vegetable oil, or peanut butter, etc. to the bait also works as an effective homemade ant killer.

How to Use Boric Acid to Kill Ants

Before placing the bait for the ants, you need to do a cleaning session in your house. Seal all cracks or holes in the house and get rid of any food pieces which might have gotten stuck in nooks and crannies. Clean all appliances in the kitchen, especially those containing food. Coming to the placement of the bait, it is noted that boric acid may be harmful to pets. So, while you are choosing the location, ensure that your pet does not have any access to it. Placing the bait just anywhere might make the place less tidy. So, it is smart to place it on small strips of wax paper, tin foil or inside straws. In this way, you need not worry about getting the place cleaned, every time you change the bait.

Changing the baits, every two or four days, helps to keep them fresh and works effectively for getting rid of ants. You can do this by mixing up the ingredients which you used to prepare the bait. Though it might take more than a couple of weeks to get rid of the ant colonies infesting your home and yard, there will be a noticeable reduction in their number.

Apart from using boric acid to get rid of ants, you can also use a spray of a mix of soap and solution. Alternatively, you can also benefit by using orange peels. Soak them in water overnight and use the solution as a spray on the insects. Other ant killing methods include an ammonia-based cleaner solution, and a spray made by steeping tobacco leaves in warm water.
