Bonding With Your Children This Christmas Season
There are so many amazing things about the Christmas season. - And one of those is all the time we get to spend with loved ones. Here we'll talk about some fun and memory-making activities you can do with your children and loved ones this holiday season!
Everybody knows that the Christmas season is the most magical time of the year. – We’re all more understanding, more patient, and much more aware and thankful of all the incredible things we’ve been blessed with. So it comes as no surprise to anyone that the holiday season is when we spend the most time with family and loved ones. With all of the cookie making and Christmas decorating, it’s not just holiday parties that are for family time either. Everybody wants their child to grow up with wonderful Christmas memories, so here we’re going to talk about five things you can do to spend extra time with your children this Christmas season!
1. One fun little Christmas activity you can do is to buy a small Christmas tree (No bigger than 2 or 3 feet tall.) and place it somewhere in your child’s room. – Then you and your child can spend an evening decorating it with all the things they love. Is your son a fan of baseball? Go out and find, or make, all the baseball themed ornaments you can together, sprucing up your child’s own special Christmas tree! Or maybe your daughter loves pink. – Buy up some pretty pink ornaments or lights, or even a small pink tree! Giving your child their very own Christmas tree to decorate is a great way to boost their holiday spirit, and it gives you something fun and exciting you both can do together!
2. Everybody makes Christmas cookies at some point, and inviting your child to help you is a great way to include your kids into your holiday traditions! Children love helping their parents bake, and you can make it even more fun by decorating some little tins with your kid and making some homemade cookie presents for their friends, teachers, or family! So crank up the Christmas tunes and turn on that oven!
3. Christmas crafts are another great thing to do with your children. – Making ornaments or holiday themed decorations to place around the house can be very fun and make all the things you decorate with all the more special. A day spent decorating your house not only makes the Christmas decorating easier on everyone, but a far more enjoyable experience than doing it alone.
4. A lesser-known tradition that my family loves is the gag gifts. My family is quite large, but it can be done with any number of people. Here’s how it works: soon after Thanksgiving, have everyone write their name on small pieces of paper. Jumble the names in a hat, and have everyone draw out a name, making sure that no one gets their own name. The name a person draws is the person they have to buy a goofy, funny, or embarrassing gag gift for. You can choose if everyone should know who has drawn whom, or if you want to keep it a secret until Christmas Eve, when the gifts are specially delivered and opened! It’s a lot of fun, and is a great activity that can have a lot of thought put into it!
5. Planning Christmas themed fun nights with your kids can also be extremely fun and exciting! A family night of Christmas carol karaoke is a great way to get into the holiday spirit. – Eggnog, hot chocolate and homemade cookies are another great way to spruce up a warm winter night. There are also plenty of Christmas movies to choose from, and spending an evening eating snacks and watching them is something that anyone in the family will love.
It’s so unfortunate that many of us spend so much effort doing the things that create stress around the holidays, when with just a little bit of time and energy we can do the things that really make Christmas special and bring our families closer together. This is a time of loving, kindness, and fun. This season opens itself up for endless ways to enjoy it, and no matter what your interests are you can find a great activity that you enjoy. For children, these are some of the most magical, memorable moments they’ll ever remember, and all of these wonderful traditions will only make them that much more special.
